Hi. Is anybody interested if i was to make a program to build a PE environment from Windows 95? I have started making it, and I will continue and finish if there is interest in it. I would also need some beta testers... wink.gif

Cool - and perhaps you could knock out a square wheel and some flint tools while you're at it. wink.gif

You would need NTFSDOS Pro or similar to enable read-write on NTFS and the interface was only good at the time because it followed Windows 3.1. Which my Mum could have made prettier.

Commodore64Builder anyone?

Anyone?

Yes, it is interesting.

However there is already an ongoing project here:
http://winimize.com/

Based on Windows 98 + some files of Win 95.

Maybe it would be better if you would contact the author and collaborate with him.

By the way the NTFS driver to choose should be the FREEWARE DATAPOL one:

Thanks for the link...interesting!...

I have contacted the authur regarding this, but if anyone here knows it would be a grat help. How do you skip detecting hardware? On the winimize site it says it has been fixed, but it doesnt say how! Anyone know? It will make boot time a few seconds rather than a few minutes.

Dennis.

EDIT: Seems his email doesnt work...

Thanks for the comments, but does anyone know how to stop the hardware detection?

Or does anyone have updated email address for the creator of winimize.com (mike?)

He hints in the readme that it has to do with a vxd taken from another program.

There are at least six other win 9x based projects that are simular to the one linked to on this thread.
Google a little & you will find some neat things,
but I don't think they would be legal enough to post here.

If my program just copies files which you supply ie the windows 95 cd and creates its own text files - eg config etc. there is nothing illegal about it at all. I had a quick search on google but could not find anything really relevant - any links would be much appreciated.

Thanks. Dennis.

Anyone able to elaborate further on this? Or any method of stopping hardware detection completely?

The idea seems promissing, I was hoping to shrink down bart pe in 35Mb, I've reached about 26Mb, but lost praticaly all functions...

Booting a windows 95/98 really seems tempting indeed. I think I'll give it a shot too!

I have the 9x ramwin & win3.1 images as boot options for bcdw.
Both have thier uses.

I't pretty cool to have a simple core operating system for replacing a file needed by windows.
Both boot in a fraction of the time bartpe does. (for obvious reasons)
But if you don't need "the power of Bart", they are nice to have.

I found this to be very interesting...

Let me put in a plug for Winternal's Paragon software. With a single .vxd file from Paragon, added to a an 8 Meg Mindows installation, it is possible to access Windows XP drives, and effect repairs on these disks.
he also updated the download today, get it before it disappears. http://winimize.com/new.html

There are some more links, find them in these posts of mine:
http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=7680
http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=10623
(most are duplicates of those already posted)

As said, the Qualystem Registry redirector is useful (minimal RAMDISK=Minimum boot time).

Moreover, if I remember correctly, there is an option to make a "driverless" minimal install image, that consequently has not optiized access to devices, but is enough to run the Datapol NTFS4DOS.

Also, for recovery purposes, you might want to check this freeware (reader only):
http://diskinternals.com/products/ntfs-reader/
the good thing is that can image an NTFS disk from Win9x.

Some nice links there! What is this Qualystem Registry redirector thing? It sounds good.

EDIT: and Qualystem Rescue is not free now, it says they are 'evolving' so no free products anymore!

@jaclaz
Do you have a copy of the old download for Qualystem Rescue?
Any chance of sending it to me?

@jaclaz

i would be interested too to test a copy of the free version.
For some tasks it would be helpfull to have a system that is booting a lot faster...
