QUOTE (TheHive @ Oct 16 2005, 09:46 AM) I have had excellent luck with Paragon Software's NTFS for Win98. http://www.sharewareorder.com/Paragon-NTFS...wnload-4551.htm It is not cheap, being about $40.00. Nice program. It contains pntfs.vxd, which, when added to the mindows\system\iosubsys, allows all the normal explorer operations on NTFS volumes, such as file transfer, deleting, creating new folders, etc. etc. When added to a CD which boots into Mindows, it makes a valuable tool for removing viruses, restoring files, etc. etc. on NTFS volumes. |

QUOTE (hilander999) Does it work in Win9x? Yes, in a DOSBOX in win 9x. Yeah, I know that it is not as "clean" as the integration in the shell that NFTSWIN98 has, but if you need to READ/WRITE access to a NTFS volume some good ol' command line commands are not that bad. But, if you just need READ access to a NTFS filesystem, I would suggest this Freeware: http://diskinternals.com/products/ntfs-reader/ that appears to work flawlessly, and it has also a disk imaging/mounting feature. Also, the evaluation/demos of other programs from diskinternals have the capability to image non NTFS disks. jaclaz -------------------- - Fighting against bloatware since 2004, and proud of it. -

QUOTE and when is anyone going to tell me how to run it from a cd? Just look at these two pages: http://www.lachiesadicristo.it/w98cd/page1.htm (After you had a look at pages 1-3, you can skip to page 4) or http://www.geocities.com/politalk/ (this is a setup using a ramdisk for win95, but the "winimized" win98 can be used to the same effect) Should you need the coa2.exe utility, a search on google for "coa2 RAREWARE" (without quotes) might be of help. jaclaz -------------------- - Fighting against bloatware since 2004, and proud of it. -

Okay, I used Virtual PC to obtain the ~20 MB Min folder. How would I make a bootable ISO for testing? I tried using mkisofs and a 98 floppy bootsector, but it didn't work....
BY THE WAY, if you don't have Windows 95 for Mindows, do the following: - Download windows 95 Service Pack 1. Just unpack the files with WinZip or 7-zip to obtain comdlg32.dll and shell32.dll http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloa...ck1/Default.asp - Download Explorer from: http://www.dr-hoiby.com/TrayIconIn256Color/ - Get one of many Notepad replacements such as http://welcome.to/metapad/ This post has been edited by jaclaz: Jul 6 2008, 03:38 AM |

I believe Hiren's CD contains live win3.1 and win98 running in ram. Might be worth looking at it. Might even permit modification to add your ntfs reader/writer.

Well, that's why I said: QUOTE (jaclaz) ONLY IF you have .Net installed for any other reason: For the record, I simply HATE the .Net based programs, but if you ALREADY have to have .Net installed on your system, they are not worse than others. Being a "purist", I am a 100% supporter of the ideas of Steve Gibson: www.grc.com/ http://www.grc.com/smgassembly.htm QUOTE Huh? . . . Windows in Assembler? Am I sick? Perhaps. Am I a dinosaur destined for early extinction? Yeah, probably. But I truly love programming. It's what I do. It fulfills me and sustains me . . . and I'm never in a hurry to "just be done with it." I can't stand sloppiness in my work, so for me that means writing the smallest, tightest, fastest, most economical computer programs possible. And THAT means authoring Windows applications in Assembly Language. Though the rest of the world may argue that they're more "productive" (when measured by hard disk space consumed per second), I stand by the principle that: "Small Is Beautiful". But I can understand that it is WELL over the head of most programmers.... jaclaz -------------------- - Fighting against bloatware since 2004, and proud of it. -

Just found this:
http://www.geocities.com/freedatarecovery/ QUOTE Win95 Live CD Construction techniques, tried and true. To Ponder: Why? Largely for data recovery - say someone loses their file, or it is deleted. One of the best ways to get their file back is to load up a complete OS with all your tools on it already, or ready to be loaded. And, while *nix is powerful, Windows 95 on a live CD is quite frankly pretty nice to work with. There are those who seek knowledge for the sake of knowledge; that is curiosity.
