What is "Ximage"? I tried doing a search on Yahoo and so far I got an X-ray imaging program, a GPS image updater, some kind of image display program, and others.

ximage is a tool from Microsoft which allows you to create a WIM Image (it's from Vista). WIM is for XP nearly the same like cloop from Knoppix.

Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloop and I think you understand it.

I've Ximage but nobody here in the Forum has explained me how to use it correctly for PE.
Perhaps now anyone can explain it. Please!

mount's an image named boot.wim in read and write mode to the folder wim
the 1 after boot.wim is the Index #
a .wim file can have more than one volume in it but boot.wim has only one
but if i added a second index i would use 2 to mount it

ximage /mountrw K:\WimPE\WimPEsc_Build_env\xImage\wim BOOT.WIM 1

unmount whatever image is mounted in folder \wim
ximage /unmount K:\WimPE\WimPEsc_Build_env\xImage\wim

want all commands do this

ximage /? > ximage.txt

For now I'm also trying to figure what's in the BOOT.WIM and specially the BOOT.SDI file...

Vista needs his DVDBOOTSECTOR+BOOT.INI+BOOTMGR+BOOT.SDI+BOOT.WIM to load it's setup... Maybe replacing BOOT.WIM with something else will do the trick. But I need to figure if it will be load the entire .WIM into memory, I think yes... This will be a problem.

I read somewhere that someone had clicked on 'read release notes' during the initial setup of Vista.
This opened notepad, from there you can click file - open and see the X: drive which is the boot.wim file.

the new format is more like an installed XP than PE
it uses windows instead of i386 no setupldr.bin
only see the bootscreen for about 1/2 a second

it also doesn't display
Setup is inspecting blah blah blah...
