Winnt.sif works without a floppy and you can select different drivers from txtsetup.oem.

Don't underestimate yourself. Your batch does work well.
Actually I havn't tried XP USB boot yet.
I'm happy, BartPE XPE does boot from USB. In my circumstances, I don't need XP USB boot.
Give me days of 72 hours and I will do it. Currently I've to disappoint you. I'm already BartPE addicted and won't start another time consuming project.
Imagine, you're at vacation, can't sleep because of altitude (4400 meters) and write a BartPE batch in memory.

Yes, i'm using unattended install with unattend.txt response file.
But for this project, i have built an nLited OS with and burn the resulting source on a CD for the first time to do some tests on a box at home. At office, i'm using unattended install from RIS Server or unattended install from a i386 source install launched with winnt32.exe /unattend. I will use use your input to change some settings and reburn the nLited OS ISO.
Don't underestimate yourself:
writing a batch script i believe is very fast for you. for me i'm using good examples from you or jaclaz or Yzöwl (msfn.org board member) as inspiration and it take sometimes half an hour or a plain hour before having a working script. The one i posted is not a good example because it's too easy to use external command like reg and SetACL to do the job. It doesn't use loop and conditional command...

du brauchst ein externes Windows, wenn du nach Tutorial 3 vorgehst.
Die Methode von Martin, sisal und meine F6 Methode braucht das nicht,
ist aber im Moment noch nicht so ganz ausgereift.

Nimm für die ersten Versuche eine USB Festplatte, löschen kannst du hinterher.

Bin grad Windows auf die 2. Partition am installieren. Eine USB Festplatte hab ich leider nicht.
Hab aber mal die Help Dateien gelöscht sind immerhin schon 100MB weniger

PS. Was ich nicht ganz checke: es heisst man soll die ntdetect mit der modifizierten Version überschreiben. Welche modifizierte Version ist gemeint? Ich hab nur meine normale ^^

can someone describe me, why there appears the message, that the driver ... has not been certifieted by Microsoft, even if I use only the

original USB*.sys files and original USB*.inf files from XPSP2, meaning that not a single bit has been changed in them?

Is it because you install them, you always need a USB*.cat file for them?

If this would not happen, Tutorial 4 could be written.

EDIT One thing is remarkable: The message, that the driver has no been certificate
appears now only exact 3 times , and not about 20 times or so before.

EDIT2 Waoaahh, I overcome any messages of bad drivers with F6 and the original Microsoft XPSP2 CD Yippiiieeehhhh

Ich gebs auf ^^ Die Sache ist mir vorerst leider zu kompliziert. Ausserdem krieg ich wegen 50 mb nichtmal das ganze XP drauf obwohl ich sachen wie Helpfiles und unnötige MS Tools gelöscht habe.

Und laufen würde es eh nie bei mir

Warte mal bis ich auf einem höheren Niveau bin und das ganze irgendwo deutsch für dummys beschrieben wird

Das mühsame ist, ich bin jetzt bis Montag zuhause und da will ich nicht neuinstallieren.
Denkst du es würde auch gehen, wenn ich Windows auf ne virtuelle VMWare Maschine installiere und die Dateien von dort auf den Stick kopiere?

bei einen Dell 9300 hat alles geklappt (XP SP2, externe USB HD), alle (relativ neuen Dell's) mit SATA weigern sich mit 0x7b.

Brauche ich wirklich die geänderte Version von ntdetect.com und ntldr?
Wo bekomme ich die her ?

Super Sache hab von nem Kollegen davon gehört und es auch mal versucht.

Aber was muss ich in der Boot.ini aufem USB Stick eintragen damit er das Windows vom Stick ladet?
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)?

Ist disk(0) dann der Stick und disk(1) die erste HD?

PS. Man kann dllcache löschen? sind ja 200-300 MB cool dachte immer das sei was wichtiges

Tutorial (Version 4)

This Version of the Tutorial describes, how to install XPSP2 direct to an USB harddisk.
All clones of XP work. Another harddisk can stay.

1.) Unzip the file F6 to a floppy disk.

2.) Put the XPSP2 CD, the floppy disk and the USB harddisk in.

3.) Press F6 when asked.

4.) Install OEM1...OEM5 with S (Z in Germany).

5.) Disable the pagefile.

6.) Delete on the USB harddisk in WINDOWS\inf usb.inf, usbstor.inf, usbport.inf.

Thanks to Jacopo Lazzari (jaclaz), now it is possible
to install all clones of XP direct to a USB stick.
Before you start with 1.) of the Tutorial 4 do the following:

1.) Write FF to all sectors of your USB stick with a hexeditor (I use Winhex). Disconnect your stick.
2.) Copy the Hitachi Microdrive Filter to your working XP harddisk.
3.) Connect your USB stick again.
4.) Go to the XP Device Manager, search for your USB stick (drives, next to your harddisk).
5.) Chose New drivers for your USB stick and there Hitachi Microdrive.
6.) Format with Partition Magic 8 your USB stick with FAT32 and set it activ.
7.) Go to step 1.) of Tutorial 4.

EDIT2:17.4.2006

If you cant install XP because you see a blue screen as in

you have to put the modified ntdetect.com on your XP installations CD.

This can be done by copying the whole original XP CD with Nero 6 as XP.iso to your harddisk.
Copy simply the modified ntdetect.com to this XP.iso image by using Ultraiso.
You dont need to pack ntdetect.com, just copy it into the I386 folder in the XP.iso image.
Burn this XP.iso back to CD with Nero 6. Thats all, good luck.

Why this bluescreen appears is, because you have no arcpath.

Ich hab mich jetzt nochmals an das Ganze gewagt Und ich bin schon viel weiter!
Er fängt an Windows zu laden (unten ein komischer Balken), danach kommt der Windows XP Splashscreen und dann ein Bluescreen

Ich hab alles nach Tutorial 3 gemacht, bis auf den Teil hier:

16.) Look on your USB device in Windows folder for the inf folder.

Search USB.inf, delete USB.PNF.
Search usbport.inf, delete usbport.PNF.
Search usbstor.inf , delete usbstor.PNF.

Open usb.inf, (then usbport.inf, then usbstor.inf).

Set in each the LoadOrderGroup... to... System Reserved ONLY for usbhub, usbehci, usbohci, usbuhci .

Set StartType = 0 ONLY for usbhub, usbehci, usbohci, usbuhci, usbstor.

Generate key LoadOrderGroup for usbstor and set it also System Reserved .

Die 3 .PNF hab ich gelöscht, welches LoadOrderGroup ich wo verändern muss in den Dateien versteh ich aber nicht und mit dem "Generate key LoadOrderGroup for usbstor..." komm ich auch nicht mit

Kann der Bluescreen daran liegen dass ich das noch nicht erledigt habe?

and with small modifications from original XPSP2 CD

usbstor.inf

And original XP SP2 files from CD

usbstor.sys
usbehci.sys
usbohci.sys
usbuhci.sys
usbhub.sys

I can describe here, what I changed or even put the text in a message, but so
the Tutorial 4 keeps small hihihihi...

PS: Tutorial 4 does not work until now on a USB stick.
I dont know why, perhaps because it is designed as removable.
Therefor you have still to use Tutorial 3.

in usbstor.inf gibt es für usbstor keinen LoadOrderGroup Eintrag.
Den musst du hinzufügen. Gib einfach start bei der Suche ein und du findest was ich meine.
Bei StartType muss 0 stehen,

ServiceType = 1
StartType = 0
ErrorControl = 1
ServiceBinary = %12%\USBSTOR.SYS
LoadOrderGroup = System Reserved

Das gleiche musst du für die anderen genannten usb files machen.
