Hi... just though I would share the following. I have used a Dell "Reinstallation CD" with Service Pack 2 already on it. I have had to place the "fixdellxp.inf" file in the plugin directory. It contains the following
QUOTE [Version]Signature= "$Windows NT$" [PEBuilder] Name="Fix Dell Windows XP OEM boot problems" Enable=1 [SourceDisksFiles] iastor.sys=4,,4 a320raid.sys=4,,4 aarich.sys=4,,4 aac.sys=4,,4 cercsr6.sys=4,,4 afamgt.sys=4,,4 NvATABus.sys=4,,4 Nvraid.sys=4,,4 As you can see I have added 4 lines of code to the standard build. But hey... it works a treat. Enjoy |

Enjoy I too have only the Dell re-installation CD. I am new to BART and am glad to hear that you can create BART from this CD, however, I am unsure as to what I need to do in terms of setting the SOURCE. Is it a particular directory on the Dell CD? Thanks, Carl |

Hi cfh
If you use the Dell recovery cd as source and cd rom letter is D: under bart PE source is d: (Bart PE is looking for d:\I386 folder) If you copy XP CD to hard disk, create a folder c:\xpsp2 and copy either all of cdrom to this folder or just \i386 folder source is c:\xpsp2 (not c:\xpsp2\i386 or c:\xpsp2\) Is your XP CD at SP1 or SP2 ? (if not the contents need to be copied to hard disk and slipstreamed to sp1 or sp2) [latter Dell XP CD's have missing device drivers and or non standard setupreg.hiv file designed to enable SATA disk support] try it and see, if it works, if not search on Dell recovery CD for solution regards Mike Barnes |

I thought that BART would extract information from the current system. However, when I tried to build BART I tried both SEARCH and CHECK in the SOURCE category and it seemed as though it could not find anything. I used the browse and assigned various directories (including i386) but it never passed CHECK. At this point I thought "Oh, I need the installation CD". When I realized that my OS was factory installed and only had this "Re-install" CD I was worried that it might not work. The crazy thing though, is that I just tried BART again because I just read a comment that if you put in the re-install CD first and then run BART , BART would find it automatically. I tried it and that was not the case, so then I told BART to look at the CD drive and do a SEARCH, but it failed. I then had it set back to my C:\ drive and did a CHECK and it VALIDATED IT!!! So then I clicked build and it built an ISO for me. Does any of this make sense or am I still doing something wrong? |

QUOTE Does any of this make sense or am I still doing something wrong? It does make perfectly sense, it means that you have an "almost full" \i386 directory on your C : drive. Yes, you are DOUBLE posting, which is WRONG: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=14514&hl= it only helps entropy to win When in doubt, just post a link to the original post, so that things are kept "together". Find here (possibly) a way to make a "full" CD out of your "DELL" one: http://vbdotnet.home.comcast.net/XP_SP2.htm jaclaz -------------------- - Fighting against bloatware since 2004, and proud of it. -

Could use some help from you knowledgable people please. I have a DELL and used the DELL recovery CD as my Source (D: CD Drive). After burning the iso image and rebooting, I received the infamous, cannot fine iastor.sys file.
Well I downloaded the dell fix cab file from Barts PE and extracted the INF file. I put it in the Plugins directory but not under a subfolder. I also placed it in the Drivers folder under SCIADAPTER and created a directory called DELL and placed the INF file in there with the iastor.sys iastor.cat and iastor.inf. Created another Barts PE CD and still received message that iastor could not be found. The last thing I did and I have not tried this yet was to un-capitalize IASTOR.sys to iastor.sys (did a rename). Have yet to burn again. Please help this dope (newbie) and perhaps tell me where to put any files needed to get Barts PE to run successfully and not find missing files on my dell (runnin SATA drive). The more basic the instructions the better. Thank you so much. Sincerely Peter pcumming@yahoo.com |

Hi pcumming
the Dell Fix is a plugin so it goes in plugin folder or a sub folder could be Plugin or Plugin\DellFix or Plugin\DellFix\DellFix (Plugin\DellFix is best) Some Network Drivers and mass Storage Drives are normal plugins and go into plugin\xxxx Others can go in Drivers\SCSIAdaptors or Drivers\Net If you have a Dell SATA driver extract all the files and put it in Drivers\SCSIAdaptor\DellSATA. THe problem of uppercasing files only crops up with pebuilder V3.14 beta (you are advised not to use it) The earlier versions upper case all files, latter versions fixed the problem as to what files must be uppercased. What version is your recovery CD XP, XP SP1 or XP SP2 ?. XP will not work without slipstreaming to SP1 or SP2. but XP Cd is more likely to be standard version than latter versions. regards Mike Barnes |
