Hello:
I am interested in solving the same problem. I was curious if you have had any success? I have been doing a lot of searching/research without any luck so far. Thanks, RangerMD |

The problem is that you need BOTH an ENABLED controller, one that actually allows for the CDFS + standard R/W filesystem AND the specific "production tool". (hardware+software)
The matter is discussed here: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=14292&st=20 related to Oti Controllers. The Autorun.ini has been discussed here: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=13205 jaclaz -------------------- - Fighting against bloatware since 2004, and proud of it. -

like I said it dosen't make any sense. I have no Idea why you want to put a CDFS on a hard disk partiton table. from what I remember back when I used windows is you could autorun something from a thumbdrive, so why and how would you want to put a CDFS on it????

@krazynesphreak
There are sticks with a "SPECIAL" controller that are seen from windows as TWO devices: 1) first is a (Read Only) CD 2) second is a Mass Storage Device Read the thread I previously linked to: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=14292&st=20 What bruce lee wants to do is, as far as I know, IMPOSSIBLE, unless the stick's controller has this possibility. It is however possible, with the tool from the manufacturer, on SOME of more common sticks to change through software the controller features as to divide the stick in two partitions of which the first one is read only and the second one is a "normal" R/W one. Of course both partitions are formatted with a "HD compatible" file system, such as FAT or FAT32. jaclaz -------------------- - Fighting against bloatware since 2004, and proud of it. -

Of course both partitions are formatted with a "HD compatible" file system, such as FAT or FAT32. jaclaz If the sticks controller allows a CD-ROM partition , as some of the newer Oti-chips do , the CD-rom partition will show as RAW or CDFS. In "device-manager" it even appears as a CD-RW drive! This is EXACTLY what u3-sticks do and LockitEasy identifys my stick (Sandisk Cruzer micro 1GB u3) as having a Oti 5406 controller (and that doesn't seem to exist), The PID is also 5406 , but it seems like you can set that to whatever you like ? The PID is 0781. I'm wondering how many different makes of controllers are there? are they just made by the same 2-3 company's and then re-branded or ?? But heres the good part : You can make your own ISO and load it (or should that be "burn"?) to the CD-ROM on your u3 stick !! Until the production-tools surface you will have to stay within the size of the existing CD-ROM partition but that still gives you 6MB to "play with". http://www.cse.msstate.edu/~rwm8/hackingU3/ I haven't tried if the Oti production-tool recognizes the Sandisk Cruzer yet , but I don't expect it to. It would be REAL nice to have the original Sandisk production-tool or ANY u3 production-tools for that matter as these drives have some interesting features and seem to be reasonably priced. |
