When testing BartPE iso in Virtual Server, it is very difficult to control the mouse. It will be nice to incorpate a Virtual Machine Additions plugin into BartPE for ease of testing in Virtual Server/PC.

I tried to search in the forum, always end up errors.

@mustang
Do you suggest we continue to work on it or is it not worthwhile trying?

I guess I'm asking if you could upload the whole thing to rapid share or something?

If you could I can make it available from ftp. Thanks.

Hang on, think i am close to make it work completly,
the sound driver shouldn't be much of an issue, actually i don't think it's part of the Virtual Machine Additions but belongs to the standard Virtual PC hardware...

Check back here tommorow, kinda late here now,
still have to clean some of my inf's (have multiple which have to be combined)

How to check if the network folder sharing additions are succesfully installed?
And do you know whats up with the proccesor not being recognized properly? (should be a P4 3000 Mhz HT)

As for the CPU not being the right description are you using an updated inf from that pesky Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility, available:
here

Remember when XP came out it may not have had the correct inf information for your processor.....

Just a thought

@mustang

Yup think your right about the CPU, it only gets that exclamation after runing HWpnp, well supose it has something to do with it being a virtual CPU, although the program clains to use the internal CPU

anyway the (updated) screenshot above is taken right after starting my PE disc, which currently holds XPE, all hardware shown in that list is detected by running bartpe-pnp (default XPE configuration) so that seems good...starting now to cleanup my files

RvdH, the link you provided isn't working for me, I'm trying with this adjusted URL http://members.lycos.co.uk/rjwvdh/Virtual%...20Additions.zip

Would like to have a look at your latest plugin. Thanks in advance.

Been searching all day and haven't been able to find anything in the realm of a finished plugin for VMAdditions huh.gif However, this seems to be the only forum out there with people working on the solution. Many props to you all...

I'm new to this forum so hopefully something will come of this post unsure.gif

I started with a clean install of Windows 2003 Standard SP1 in a VM of Virtual Server 2005 R2 and captured the installation of VMAdditions v13.552.0.0. I used a free app called InstallWatch Pro 2.5c which can be found here: http://www.epsilonsquared.com/installwatch.htm

You can view the outputted file changes here: http://staging2.fusionapps.com/matt/vmaddi...ions_Files.html

And the outputted registry changes here: http://staging2.fusionapps.com/matt/vmaddi...s_Registry.html

For a more structured view of the output, install the app above and replace C:\Program Files\Epsilon Squared\InstallWatch Pro\Databases\Default.iwc with the file in this zip before running for the 1st time: http://staging2.fusionapps.com/matt/vmadditions/Default.zip

Once the unnecessary registry and file edits are weeded out, a fully functional PE plugin should be out in the community, I would hope.

When viewing the output in InstallWatch Pro, the file structure is pretty much self-explanatory but very new to deciphering such a large amount of registry edits. It's going to take me a while to look up each general path location to determine if its viable in a PE environment. I just started using Bart PE yesterday so any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks in advance to all comments.

I restored the inital clean VHD and did a second output on the VMAdditons install which took forever to complete, but adds a more clear result as to what changed during the install, by adding file version and CRC detection.

New links are as follows:

http://staging2.fusionapps.com/matt/vmaddi...ions_Files.html

http://staging2.fusionapps.com/matt/vmaddi...s_Registry.html Including just for a second glance, should be the same, no?

I also have been working on a plugin for VM Additions. The mouse and keyboard works great. On startup, the two services "Virtual Machine Additions Services Application" and "Virtual Machine Additions shared Folder Service" do not start. I get an error when trying to start "Virtual Machine Additions Services Application" that the dependency service or group failed to start which is not true. It is dependant on "Virtual Machine Additions Services Driver" which is running. I can manual start "Virtual Machine Additions shared Folder Service" even though it is dependant on "Virtual Machine Additions Services Application". Once the folder service is running I can share folders from my PC. They show disconnected but it works.

Below is my inf file. It is still a working draft and needs to be cleaned up. If anybody has the services working can you please post the plugin.

Great to see that this topic isn't dead! I tinkered with Bart PE for a few days after capturing the installation, learned the syntax as I went to the best of my ability, but when I went to run it, mouse was broken completly. Later on tonight I'll compare what you have to what I did and see what went wrong with my attempt. Great job on getting the mouse to work and thanks for posting the code. Can't wait to try it out. Can you post a zip of your plugin so I can have a crack at it?

Thanks biggrin.gif

If you check the bottom of my post I list the folders and files that I have set up for the plugin. The mouse gave me trouble also until I found out that when the CD boots, the file "TXTSETUP.SIF" starts mouse and keyboard drivers and overwrites the registry. At the end of my inf file, "TXTSETUP.SIF" is edited to replace these drivers with vpc-8042. This will fix the mouse! smile.gif

I also fixed the start error of "Virtual Machine Additions Services Application" service. Just replace:
0x7, "ControlSet001\Services\1-vmsrvc", "DependOnGroup", 0x0
with:
0x7, "ControlSet001\Services\1-vmsrvc", "DependOnGroup"

The service still does not start automatically but does start manually now.

I also changed the following line:
0x7, "ControlSet001\Services\VPCMap", "DependOnGroup",
to:
0x7, "ControlSet001\Services\VPCMap", "DependOnGroup"

This removes the blank line in the vaule to match my test install of VM Additions.

I am working on getting those two services to start automatically and cleaning my inf file. Please post your inf when you get a chance and we can compare notes. smile.gif

@mwzard

As for the 1-vmsrvc and vpcmap services, I could not get them to start automatically. I settled for the following command to start them on boot.

Funny the progess I have been making today after working on this for a week. rolleyes.gif

Add the lines below to your inf file and the services will start. No need for a cmd file: smile.gif

0x0,"Setup\AllowStart\1-vmsrvc"
0x0,"Setup\AllowStart\VPCMap"

Sorry to interupt here, but as far as i can tell/know, there is NO need to edit the TXTSETUP.SIF to get the mouse to work, my plugin posted above proves this wink.gif

examing your plugin, ive noticed a few strange things... your plugin is reffering to OEM1,OEM2 and OEM3.INF
Replace those names with original INF names
2 remark i have, with this plugin you are forced to use sherpya's RegistryExpander plugin (or replace it with X:\) all as there quite a few path names which do not hold correct values (%SystemRoot%)

RvdH, we were unalbe to get to download your plugin from the link provided. I already replaced the OEM files with their original names. I was just trying to match my test setup as much as possible to get it working before I cleaned things up. As far as the %SystemRoot%, it is part of my clean up of the inf file that I need to do, but when I replace it in the line:

0x2, "ControlSet001\Services\MRxVPC", "ImagePath", "\??\X:\i386\system32\drivers\MRxVPC.sys"

The service would not start. I would love to see your inf file. Can you post it here?

mm, just noticed you are right about 0x2, "ControlSet001\Services\MRxVPC", "ImagePath", "\??\X:\i386\system32\drivers\MRxVPC.sys"

Allthough RegistryExpander Expands the patch Exactly the same as your it won't run...mmm strange...realy have been running it like that

ps, i will check that website later...guess tripod doesn't like spaces in filenames

BTW, Do you use multiple tools to create your inf's? (seems there are differences in spacing in your inf)

laugh.gif I created my inf in notepad, no tools. The difference comes from pasting from http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?sho...additions&st=20 when I had trouble getting mine to work (if you read natashatg's post, you will see he had the same mouse issue). Then after that I started typing without the spaces. ohmy.gif No reason behind it, just started to use a different format. laugh.gif
