The time has come!

Tinybit released on 31/12/2006 the 0.4.2 "stable" release. smile.gif

2007 couldn't have started better. cool.gif

Mike69 on Bootland, who already tested it quite extensively has found that it fixes a few more little problems of previous 0.4.2prexx versions and nightbuilds.

Thanks to Tinybit

@Jaclaz
This might be a little late, but better late than never - thanks Jaclaz.

This release has fixed the problems I was having when booting from USB. I've read for some time in the documention included in the 0.4.2pre# releases that:
QUOTE
In the future, we will remove NTFS support. For Windows users,
please create an FAT partition and place GRLDR and menu.lst
there. From now on, please don't report bugs relevant to NTFS.

Someone reports that Windows XP with newer SPs and Windows
Vista have intentionally broken the compatiblity with many
things(including GRLDR). So you will get into trouble with
these systems.

I've not encountered any problems so far. Can also report that this release can directly chain bootmgr of WinPE 2.0 (from WAIK). Don't know (and don't really care at the moment) whether it will also chain bootmgr of Vista - though I don't see why it shouldn't.

@diddy

No need to thank me, thank Tinybit!

About NTFS, I have got the impression that it is more like a pre-alarm.

Just a guess on my part, but probably Tinybit was overwhelmed by people "accusing" grub4dos of not working of NTFS (whilst most probably the problem was "between chair and screen") and he put that in the readme.txt just to avoid the problem.

So far I had occasion to install grldr (NOT grldr.mbr) on several systems (NOT mine) with First Active Primary (and only) Partition with XP SP2 and got no problem, cannot say what will happen with Vista.

However, and just for the record, I learned (the hard way) to follow the advice of Gilles Vollant (author of Winimage and Bootpart)
http://www.winimage.com/bootpart.htm
QUOTE (Gilles Vollant)
The only thing I highly suggest is : your active partition on your first hard disk must be a FAT16 primary partition. This may be a small partition.

when NT4 came out, never had after any of my systems without First Active Primary Partition formatted as FAT16, never had any problem, and it seems like I am already "compatible" with possible future evolutions of grub4dos! cool.gif

Cheers,
jaclaz

this is very interesting I was looking for an easy way to replace a few messed up windows mbr a boot files.

I got grub to work mostly but was never able to get it completely working as a repalcement I would hope someday to be able to do this though. Especially for those systems with messed up boot loaders and hp_recovery partitions.
