I successfully copied my Norton Ghost boot floppy and made it into a bootable CD. But I have not been able to copy said files to a usb memory stick. Can anyone help me in creating a bootable memory stick that boots up like my Norton Ghost 2003 CD? You can imagine how convenient that would be for me. I use Ghost at work all the time. I did find a HP utility on the net that I actually paid for, but it also did not work. Any ideas? Thanks
Mike

Good luck getting your money back.

I use PEtoUSB with good results. http://gocoding.com/page.php?al=petousb And it's free.

It is a topic coming and going from time to time on this board.

Things must be made in steps.

First thing is to be able to boot the stick with plain DOS (7.x or Win98 one).

Do start reading thoroughfully my FAQ's:
http://home.graffiti.net/jaclaz:graffiti.n...SB/USBfaqs.html

expecially #4 and #10.

If what is there suggested does not work, search on the board for posts by me (jaclaz) with keyword "makebootfat".

More generally, do take your time browsing the board searching for terms like, bootable, USB% (yes that is USB followed by pecentage to overcome the three characters limit of the search engine), and similar ones.

If it still does not work, read my "main" page:
http://home.graffiti.net/jaclaz:graffiti.n...B/USBstick.html
for an alternate way using a VM.

Fell free to ask anything you do not understand, and once you have succesfully booted to DOS, we'll try and see how to put GHOST on it.

The Ghost2003 boot floppy has a boot sector of "IBM 7.1 [.BIN]",
with IBMBIO.COM and IBMDOS.COM.
(And the usual AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, etc. with the Ghost2003 folders.)

Should be pretty trivial to boot the 'IBM DOS' in lieu of the plain DOS,
once you get the 'hang of it'...

Hope this helps.

1. Make an image ( aa.img ) of your bootable Ghost floppy disk, using WinImage:
http://www.winimage.com/download.htm

2. Create MBR, Partition and Format USB_stick using HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool Version 2.0.6
http://download.chip.eu/en/USB-Disk-Storag...0.6_176935.html

3. Copy ntldr, NTDETECT.COM, Bootfont.bin and boot.ini from your C-drive to USB-stick

4. Download grub4dos from http://grub4dos.jot.com/WikiHome and http://download.gna.org/grub4dos/

5. Copy grldr to USB-stick and change in boot.ini on stick rdisk(0) in rdisk(1) and
add the following rule: c:\grldr="Start GRUB4DOS Menu"

6. Use the grub4dos tutorial to make menu.lst and add menu.lst to USB-stick
http://grub4dos.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub.html
http://grub4dos.sourceforge.net/wiki/index...ub4dos_tutorial
Use Disk emulation with Direct mapping in menu.lst:

menu.lst
CODE
color black/cyan yellow/cyan
timeout 15

default 0

title Boot from floppy image
map (hd0,0)/aa.img (fd0)
map --hook
chainloader (fd0)+1
rootnoverify (fd0)

7. Copy your Ghost.exe + bootable floppy image (file: aa.img) to USB-stick

8. Reboot Computer, take care that BIOS selects USB-booting first
