I've used the guide here
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2008/11/01/ub...-usb-installer/ to setup my thumb drive with Ubuntu 8.10. I think this ends up using syslinux for the bootloader, but I would like to use my grub4dos to boot into my persistent install. I posted over on the Ubuntu forums but never seemed to get much help. Then entries from 8.04 don't work any more, as the "persistent" changes are now stored inside a loop file instead of a seperate partition. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. ~Fizz |

Following is what I used to boot Ubuntu 8.10 with grub4dos. You may have to change the locale settings etc...
You should also have a partition named casper-rw to store the pesistence. ubuntu.usb is my tag file. You can change the command for example to find --set-root /casper/vmlinuz. CODE title Ubuntu 8.10 (persistent)
find --set-root /ubuntu.usb kernel /casper/vmlinuz file=preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper locale=fr_FR bootkbd=fr console-setup/layoutcode=fr console-setup/variantcode=nodeadkeys persistent splash -- initrd /casper/initrd.gz |

Don't think thats quite what I would need - Using the setup tool in 8.10, the persistent changes are stored inside a file and not on a seperate partition. I could use the 8.04 guides for the seperate partition, but I would highly prefer to setup the 8.10 install for the "persistent file"
Thanks ~Fizz |

Have you such a loop-file on your stick?
(Doesn't matter if the UBUNTU-automatics has done this, or if you created it by hand.) Other question: Works it with SYSLINUX? If YES, it can't be difficult to convert this to a GRUB4DOS one ... It creates all the proper files, but looking through the .cfg files I can't seem to find the right menu enties to get it to boot. There are a couple i have tried but they all drop to busybox command prompt before it can boot all the way into ubuntu. ~Fizz This post has been edited by daddy_fizz: Jan 9 2009, 04:30 PM |
