Need some help on a specific icon again:

This one I can see, and assign from 'Properties', 'Change Icon', but only after
I've booted and the ugly original icon is on the desktop.

I want to be able to put it in my .inf but don't know how to get the icon nbr in shell32.dll.

Scrolling toward it, it's the 12th column in, and the 3rd row down...

It looks like a "royal blue, world-globe, with a Windows 4-color flag on its upper-left quadrant".
(Quite nice, actually...) I want to use it to tag 'XP Tech manual' in my maintenance popout...

Also, how does a 'normal person' (without resources) find out the numbers of any other icons in shell32.dll
or icons in executables, for that matter ?

Siegfried helped 2 years ago with a specific icon, but he said he used Reatogo, Tools menu...

I got BartPE/XPE 1.0.6....

Thanks again, guys.. flowers.gif

sorry but this too advanced for my skills

check Troubleshooting FAQs
down in my sig

should put edit here:

no just kidding
icon index starts at 0

as an ex:
0 would be first icon in Ad-Aware.exe repalace Ad-Aware.exe with shell32.dll plus icon index use arrow key and just count from 0, 1, 2 etc

this is all on one line it may look like two but when copied it will be one line
displayed Name path to program shortcut icon to use the ,0 at the end is the icon index in the file starting at 0
0x2,"Sherpya\XPEinit\Desktop","Ad-Aware SE","%SystemDrive%\Programs\adaware\adaware.cmd||%SystemDrive%\Programs\adaware\Ad-Aware.exe,0"

edit:
I see you hilander hysterical.gif

I was just there an hour or so ago, refreshing up on your:

Q.05: How to create shortcuts for XPE?

because that's where i first learned HOW to make a shortcut... sorcerer.gif
( http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?sho...amp;#entry98119 )

Later, found this form of statement, to concatenate a -specific- icon (in shell32.dll), via piping:

;; A set of 3 keys (104) - from Siegfried:
0x2,"Sherpya\XPEinit\Desktop","My Pro Tools","%SystemDrive%\Programs\ChuckTools\ChuckTools.cmd||%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,104"

So, now I'm looking for a number to replace the "104" above, to assign the 'blue globe Windows flag' icon,
using the "XP manual" label and path, etc...

Edit:
Hah!
Siegfried also gave me this, which is pretty close to the 'blue-globe':

;; HDD with red-Question-mark on it - Siegfried:
;; 0x2, "Sherpya\XPEinit\Desktop","ShortCut_Name","%SystemDrive%\Programs\MyProg\My.cmd||%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,53"

Counting backwards, I'll bet the number I'm looking for is "50"...
(I'll assign 45-55, since i've got about 10 entries)

Guess it's time for a glass of wine thumbup.gif and a new build... heh-heh

Let 'ya know pretty soon

chuck

Your making it sound way too hard....

Use Resource Hacker to open shell32.dll
scroll down on the right to ICONS
right-click ICONS and choose "save icon resources"

This will let you easily find the one you need.
You can also just look at each icon in reshack, but it will take a lot longer to find what you want.

Another way, perhaps not as elegant as previous suggestions but anyway, is to use Batch Icon Extractor.
Just drop the shell32.dll on the app and all icons will be extracted to a folder in seconds

@ceroni,

Thanks a lot for your .png image - cool stuff! thumbup.gif

(It is off by one because of 'start at zero', but a really nice piece of work!)

Can you mention how you got them all into one picture?

If its not too much of an effort, could you do the same, starting at Zero?
Really would appreciate it...
(If not, no big deal.)

Enjoyed my visits/vacations in Recife many years ago.
Happy and smiling faces, those Brazilians...

Anyway, THANKS for the png image !!!!

Chuck R.

Oh, that icon I was looking for, is on the desktop here:

Thanks, fuwi, for both the app and the pic... flowers.gif

Copied them to my \PEBuild and \xpe folders for future reference.

And also, thank you for all of your work on USB-booting... thumbup.gif

I hope to soon do some more boot-work on my new SanDisk Cruzers 16 GB... sleeping.gif

PS: That particular icon that I was last looking for (#46) "belongs" to 'Windows Update'...
