Full Version: Bartpe Not Seeing Adaptec Legacy Card...

Adaptec AIC78XX.SYS is a legacy driver for ultra 160 controllers. It's included with XP. The problem I'm having is if I build BartPE on a system without the ultra 160 controller, then try and boot that disk on a system WITH an ultra 160 controller, no drives are found.

If I build on the ultra 160 system, everything is fine.

AIC78XX.SYS is an adaptec driver supllied with XP. The weird part is BOTH builds contain the proper textsetup.sif entries and all the files are on on the disk in the proper place.

Anyone have any ideas? Bart???

I have the same controller and I use the aspi-plugin from this forum.
I found the driver AIC78XX.SYS in :\BartPE\i386\system32\drivers.
My bootdisk is not SCSI. I can see all the drives on this PC and on other PC/Laptops as well. I use external SCSI-Tapedrives and internal SCSI Disks with ghost.

So I don't have your problem, but to check I have to build my CD on a PC without that controller. This will take some time. Do you use the ASPI-Plugin?

I wonder if the difference between our setups is, on the systems that I'm booting, IBM workstations, the boot device is connected to the ultra 160 controller.

I AM using the aspi plugin. I was hoping that that was the problem, however, it didn't seem to make a difference.

Looking in texsetup.sif, I see the entries are the same between both builds. But, for some reason, the AIC78XX.SYS is not being loaded at boottime on the build that came from the machine without the SCSI boot device.

I was thinking about trying the F6 at main boot screen, but Adaptec doesn't make a driver floppy for that boot stage for the ultra 160 controller. mad.gif

I will keep on trying to figure this out!!!

Does aic78xx support an ultra 160 controller?
I'm using adpu160m in that case.

aic78xx, aic78u2 and adpu160m are working and support different hardware.

Which SCSI controller do you use?

Does txtsetup.sif, section [HardwareIdsDatabase], describe your vendor and device number? e.g. PCI\VEN_9005&DEV_0080 = "adpu160m"

Maybe old windows driver dosn't support your hardware. Include new drivers.

The aspi plugin dosn't support hardware controller.

@cdob -

I will check tomorrow to see for sure, but I thought the AIC-78XX was the support for ultra 160 controllers. The 29xx series.

I'll check and post tomorrow.

Thanks!!

Ok, I just checked the textsetup.sif for the version that I've built for home and it IS there in the correct section.

Crazy stuff...

Update:

I was able to boot the IBM workstation with a CD built on a non-IBM, NON-SCSI this morning and it worked perfectly. I don't know why!!!

It could have been a SP1 vs. SP2 issue. I guess I will never know.

Thanks to all who replied!!
