Bart All In One version 1.4

Hello all, I have just completed a very useful tool that I think every one will want...assuming it doens't suck.

So Here's a screen shot of my All in One.

It sends you through the steps to create Bart PE using PE Builder, then it uses Batcher (discussed in another thread at this forum) Batcher will reduce the size of a PE directory to about 60MB (this version) then Step 3 does a set of batch files that will make it boot into ram. Step 4 is using qemu to test it, then Step 5 Burns it.

I just whipped this together, and I'm sorry I don't have time to talk about it much but download it and tell me what you think.

I have two side things to mention.
First if you skip to step 3 you can make ANY bart pe directory boot into ram, or have it take any Bart PE directory and make install on a USB device (as of version 1.3 and later)
In any case I have only one link to download at rapidshare
Any way here's the link.
http://rapidshare.de/files/17284378/BartAIO1.4.zip.html

I hope you all like it and don't rip me apart if it sucks, I don't work with this stuff as much as some of you.

EDIT: I moved the link to the latest version. And fixed the picture to resemble the latest version. Then I added version 1.4.

Holy crap! This actually looks....good! huh.gif

Wow hooovahh!!. Very impressive.

But if you want or need to backup data with a BartPE system that has only a single CD drive doesn't the ExpressBurn plugin do that?

See this posting.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! biggrin.gif
I've built all sorts of BartPE now, with tested plugins, drivers, homemade plugins, on CD, on USB, etc)... and none worked at the first try .
Your tool did! smile.gif and is well documented, too.
It allows creating a very convenient small rescue tool.
Thanks

Your works looks great!

Keep up with your development!

p.s. In the Ram menu, there is a small mistype where it should be written "drive" instead of "die" wink.gif

But I really liked it..!

Thanks alot DigiWiz nice to talk to you again.

@neue
I'm glad you like it, I kinda forgot to ask if I could use your batcher program...so uh can I?

Thank every one for your testing, I've finished another version of this AIO. I've uploaded the new version to rapidshare, and I changed the link and picture for the new version. The only thing changed in this version is every spot that has you type in the location of some thing, I know have a browse folder button, or browse for file button. It seems to work alright, still can't have spaces in the path...it's kinda complicated using auto play for that.

I'll be fixing the typo soon too... rolleyes.gif

And I've tried using express burn, nero, and small cd writer putting it into ram then removing the disk to burn, but had little to no success, once with small cd writer it did burn the cd, but it never told you when the cd was done, it just was stuck at 0% I waited for the drive to stop being active, and it turns out it burned the cd, this way will work no matter what. It's also quite fast, it took me about 1.5 minutes to completely boot, (just a guess) after it loads into ram (about 45 seconds) every thing is fast.

That's a great idea thanks...of couse I have no idea how to do that...I supose I'll write an ini file that gets used...yeah I think I can do that.

Any other sugestions or complaints? Other than not having spaces in the path.

Having trouble adding plugins. I tried to add xpsetuplauncer plugin from a different bartpe and I get an error during bartpe build that says it cant find nu2menu.xml. Doesnt do that with the ohter bartpe. Any Ideas???

Ok. I see that the plugins run from scripts instead of the nu2menu. So---I need to know how to add my own plugins work. Finished size isnt necessarily my objective. I dont have to run it from ram. I need to add just a few of my own plugins.

Thanks

I've downloaded your second version of BartAIO, but there's something in it which prevents the creation of the iso, whereas the previous version worked fine.
I mean, it does create SmallPE.iso, but doesn't add it to RAMPE.iso. rolleyes.gif
I ran the two in exactly the same conditions from two different drives, so (I think) it shouldn't be something in my environment.

I realize now that I'm an idiot, when I made my 2nd version the thing I changed was the default final iso name could be any thing, instead of just rampe.iso. Previosuly that was hard wired into the batch file, but in the new version I still had it in as rampe.iso but the user could make what they wanted...basically the work around for that version would be when it says what the name of the iso should be I would say type in a directory (like C:\blah) my 3rd version (I'm calling it 1.2) has that problem fixed. And the link above is for 1.2.

Yes unfortunatly when batcher runs it removes many system files that aren't always nessicary, this is why when using batcher you should have no plugins on your bart pe directory sorry.
As some one already mentioned you can still add functionality with scripts for batcher.

New things in 1.2:
It now has two .ini files in it that remember your last sessions settings.
You can now have spaces in the file, or folder paths for every thing. I've tested it today and it worked, but I won't be surprised if there are problems.
I forgot to fix the typo...sorry.

i would like to thank you again for building this program. wub.gif

i've been playing with it for several days and learning a little bit also. i can now use the scripts to build an iso{i had no clue where to put them before} although i still have no idea how to write them.

the qemu launcher part of your program is the most useful to me at this point. i had never used qemu untill now,i use virtual pc to test my iso's. now i perfer qemu as it is faster and uses less system resources{i've been running every iso i can find}.

thanks again,
kimberlito
Somehow, I don't have a clue how to install BartAIO. I downloaded file "BARTAIO[1].v1.2.rar" (9788 KB) from the link provided:

http://rapidshare.de/files/16927957/BARTAIO.v1.2.rar

Extension "rar" means nothing to me nor my WinXP so I changed it to "exe" and run the file. In split second the command line executed something and closed down. Now I have two questions:

1) Do I have to wipe out (format) all my partitions and do recovery of all of them from my Acronis backup ? (in case there is some monster installed somewhere on the system)

2) What is the right procedure to get AIO working?

Thanks

@bober
Your very welcome for my little creation, when I made it I was hoping I would inspire some one to pick my program appart and learn a few things. I still prefer VMWare over qemu, but for just testing an ISO it's so much easier to use qemu. Also good luck with your script writing.

@kimberlito
Hello, I presume you don't have much experience at this forum. The .rar file you downloaded is similar to a .zip file (which windows xp is familar with) .rar is just another compression method. You can download 7-Zip which can decompress .rar files. Here is 7-Zip's home page: http://www.7-zip.org/

I'd recomend actually downloading the first link I posted.

http://rapidshare.de/files/16886369/BARTAIO.zip.html

This is the latest version (1.2) and it's already in a .zip format. Download it, right click and say extract all. Extract the files, then run autorun.exe, this will run you through the procedure.

If you have any other questions please don't be shy.

@DigiWiz
Thanks alot buddy for updating your mirror, the original reason why I asked for a mirror is because the file was originally being hosted on my website. And some people said there were problems with downloading from my site, which is why I asked for a mirror at rapidshare. But thanks still for helping me out, you even changed the file name to represent the new version, awsome.

Howdy all,

this project looks *very* interesting, and I'm just downloading (analog connection, will take some time). A short question before I even start testing it: will it be possible to create the RAM-based PE also on a USB stick, with the pe2usb tool?

Of course, if I understood that well, the idea of the RAM was to free the CD-drive, but I reckon it may also be faster than actually a CD or even a USB-stick is. Hence my interest.

Cheers

I am starting to check this possiblity too..

It would be great to have a standard .script to make usb boot a bit easier - I think jazclaz is an appropriate person to discuss it (not to mention dietmar also..) smile.gif
kimberlito
Hooovahh, your AIO works like a charm.

1) After booting to AIO, in Task Manager, I couldn't find any tab/column that shows actual RAM usage. You could see that in BartPE's Task Manager. I can live with that, just curious if I missed something.

2) In the Batcher stage you have to set the path for ISO file but Batcher doesn't seem to create any (or at least I couldn't find it). However, if you leave this field blank the Batcher won't run. Again, not a big deal, just trying to understand how all this works.

PS: thanks for the link to 7-Zip, I didn't know RAR compression format.

Tested this really nice tool.

Here are my results: Everything went fine but CDIMAGE. It gave me an error message about a SxS file having more than 110 characters and stopped. I then used mkisofs for making the iso's without problem. I adeded a few things: German keyboard with toggle to US keyboard, local timezone, Drive Snapshot (not freeware), MBR Whisky. support of Via SATA hard drive and usb support and ended up with 60 MB. I did not write new scripts but made it via plugins as well as by copying over some files from an earlier 67 MB build (eg. txtsetup.sif). Finally I made a multiboot MiniCD with EasyBoot (not freeware) with the boot options to start MicroBartPE from CD or from Ram. Used the well known technique to rename one i386 folder and the pointers to it. Drive Snapshot is autostarted if the CD is inserted when running Windows.
I will use this CD to backup and restore images mainly.

Was surprised about the QUEMU GUI: Could not be easier and faster!

Thanks for this nice tool!

My wishlist: Regedit with runscanner or RegeditPE or RegistryLoaderPE ...

Thank you everyone, I'm so thrilled people are actually using this. biggrin.gif

@cmmehl
I'm not familiar with the usb utility you mentioned, but it might actually be useful, because when using a usb stick it gets writen over an over again as you change things and reboot. This dramatically reduces the life of the usb stick so going into ram would help alot. I'll look into it.

@kimberlito
sorry there's no real task manager, I simply used a pack of scripts posted by neue at his batcher thread. I realized having batcher create an iso would be stupid at that stage of the setup. Which is why I removed the mkisofs script. This is why it still asks for a location for the ISO but does nothing with it. I'll document that in the next version.

@philon
Thanks alot for taking what I made and running with it, it sounds like you've made alot of improvments. Just wondering, how did you get over 110 characters? I'll look into making a script for regedit, or equivelent of.

@Draugen
Thanks for that, I'll fix that in the next version.

I've tried 1.2, but it still gave problems to me ... unitl I learned how it was supposed to be used. cool.gif
I ran "Boot into RAM" (without Help) and at the next run noticed that paths hadn't been remembered (no ini files added).
I then discovered that "Help" led to a new window (with its own RUN button!) which correctly created the ini files for the next run and copied paths to the "Boot into RAM" window. So there are two possible ways to do the task, one that creates the ini, the other that doesn't. Why not to eliminate one to avoid user's confusion?
Further, next time "Help" is used ini files are ignored, and the old default paths (hardcoded?) are reproposed.

It would be nice if only one window could be used and the paths were always read frome the same ini files, to limit configuration efforts to the first run only.

ADDED: Would it be possible to automatically delete the temporary RAM directory after building the ISO? It seems to me that if one forgets deleting it and changes his build, those changes are not reflected, as an ISO is already found in Temp\RAM.

Sorry for bothering you with all these details; it's not criticism at all, but only an attempt to facilitate the use of an already great tool. smile.gif
edborg

P.S. I agree, RAM USB install would be very useful too. Pe2usb.cmd is Bart's script to do exactly that.
However, EWF (Enhanced Write Filter), the tool to protect against premature death of an USB stick is not necessary with BartPE (which is write protected on its own); it's only needed with full XP.

EDIT: neue (now Nuno Brito) has updated his Batcher/ScriptPack adding some tools AND changing name and paths. It therefore does no longer work with AIO, unless with some editing. blink.gif

Oops.. blink.gif

I removed most script folders from the latest script pack and only left qEmu on a subfolder - this really eased my concern on updating new versions without crowding it with a lot of subfolders..

But all working paths withing batcher remain the same, I still haven't tested AIO, but what does this program relies in batcher to properly work?

The values to these paths depend only on an .ini file, perhaps once you upgrade to 1.17 I guess this file is overwritten - forcing to add the working paths again..

I will do my best to correct these problems..

As for USB boot using pe2usb, that looks a really interesting project.. smile.gif

In fact the new tree structure of Batcher is much better, and works fine with BartAIO, provided the user (or hooovahh biggrin.gif ) changes the name of the folder (ScriptPack/Batcher) and moves Qemu and mkISOfs to the "Other Scripts" folder, as the ISO creation is done in a separate step in BartAIO.

No I understand.. in previous versions all .script had to be placed under a "Scripts" sub-folder, with 1.17 any subfolder can be used - and no scripts subfolder available anymore..

Next pack will have a separate folder for qEmu and mkisofs scripts, if hooovahh updates his script paths to use scriptpack, next batcher versions will be fully compliant with AIO without worries.. wink.gif

Wow there's so much activaty here I can only check this forum once a day at best. In any case I posted version 1.3 smile.gif

http://rapidshare.de/files/17199692/BartAIO1.3.zip.html

(I updated the first post)
This version made the taskmanger, and regedit apear in the menu of xoblite. I tried fixing the xoblite from naging you but it didn't work, I'll try the second post. I also added drive image xp to this. It was always there just not in the right directory. I also added the ability to now install PE to a USB device. It doesn' NOT load it into ram...I'll work on that. Also I couldn't test this part of the AIO because sadly I don't have a USB device I can test it on. And my bios doesn't like booting stuff like that. So some of you could test that for me.

It still uses the old batcher. I forgot what version exactly, I'll look into using the new one from now on. I'll also try to make the folder naming convention more universal.

@edborg
The reason why I had two places to perform the task, is because I wanted to show the user what to do in more detail. So I made a help page, which does the same as the normal page just explaining it a little more. I didn't realize that my writing the ini file worked in one and not the other I'll get right on that.

My work as temperarily layed me off dry.gif so I've had a little time on my hand which is why I've created version 1.4 tongue.gif

Here's the link I'll change the first post after this
http://rapidshare.de/files/17284378/BartAIO1.4.zip.html

Not a while lot changed, I tweaked the UI so that it's easier to understand. I also made tip strips all over places to help explain things, with out having a help page for every thing. Still have it for batcher and pebuilder cause the picture helps.

I also made it so you can have it delete the temp directory after creating the ISO.

I was able to borrow a USB drive and test the usb capabilites. And it works perfect. It loads pe into ram from the usb drive. Thanks Bart. I did make it a little better, you can now make any bartpe directory boot into ram, you no longer have to have the name be bartpe. Aside from that not much else changed. I didn't get to downloading batcher (the new one) I'll get it and try it out.

One thing I want to add is the ability to test the usb device with qemu, I'm pretty sure it can boot USB devices. For now it still only tests ISOs.

One last thing I fixed is I found the problem with not remembering your previous sessions settings. It now does. I'd explain what I did wrong but no one would understand without auto play media studio.

* taskmgr.exe and regedit.exe work fine. In order to see also the remote registry I added Paragliders Runscanner plugin. The entry in xoblite\menu.rc to start it correctly is:

CODE
[exec] (Regedit with Runscanner)    {x:\programs\runscanner\runscanner.exe /t 0 x:\i386\system32\regedit.exe}

* The nag screen at startup disappeared by replacing #054 in xoblite\extensions.rc with #090 Thanks to hook88

* The Shutdown Option "shutdown" reboots as well as the option "reboot". Is this a common problem?

I have a working plugin I use on all BartPe builds rather old but working well. It is taken from what was posted by m.leong, mbarnes, cool400 and b.burrows. I added it to BartAIO\pebuider\plugin and took care that the necessary drivers where not deleted by a script later on and that txtsetup.sif listed these drivers.
As it is to be expected all usb drives ( also USB Flash Drives!) have to be inserted before booting MicrBartPE.

Do a search for "multiboot" and you will get all information you need. My personal recommendation is first to make a modified "ISO 1" = "SmallPE" by renaming I386 to BACD, renaming bootsect.bin to bootbacd.bin and search and replace with a hex editor I386 with BACD and i386 with bacd in bootbacd.bin and setupldr.bin. If the new iso boots in QEMU as well as from CD you are ready for the next step. Good luck! wink.gif

Try to use a path to the ISO without any spaces, instead if using "Iso creé Avec PEBuilder\bootablePE.iso" try using a folder like this: "Iso_creé_Avec_PEBuilder\bootablePE.iso" or "IsoCreéAvecPEBuilder\bootablePE.iso" in any case just make sure that the folder exists before you use batcher and there are no spaces in your selected paths (inlcuding target, source and ISOfile dir)

I hope this fixes your problem!

Hello Hooovahh,

I have a problem !!! I Run Batcher :

And I haven't an ".Iso" with reduce size. This ".Iso" appears nowhere !!!

It's a shame !!! Because it's an excellent product !!!

Thanks for your help !!!

Batcher won't create an ISO at this part of the process. Step 2 Reduces the size of the Bart PE directory, but with the default stuff there won't be an ISO created, but a acceptable path must be given to start batcher.

Also I've come to realize that my AIO is really popular look at all these mirrors some one found for version 1.3

I didn't knew that the ISO file wasn't created by batcher, in case I think I know how to solve the issue the spaces within the paths, next version will most likely have it fixed.
