Full Version: USB flash bootable with Ghost

Hello

I want to get a USB flash drive bootable with Ghost 8. I don't know much about dos and have been learning on the go.

Right now I have two floppies, one with the drivers and bootable information, the other with ghost.exe. I can boot with the floppies into ghost so the floppies work. Now I want to put those bootable files onto one usb flash drive. I have tried the HP utility and the following site
http://www.weethet.nl/english/hardware_bootfromusbstick.php

Both of these will not work for me. I've also searched all over google but have not found someone with a similar problem as mine. I know my bios is able to boot from USB and my bios does see my USB drive.

Does anyone have a step by step process for this that doesn't assume I know dos commands.

Thanks
Kev

Try using the HP formatting utility EXACTLY as in the tutorial linked to in FAQ #4 here:
http://home.graffiti.net/jaclaz:graffiti.n...SB/USBfaqs.html
(don't forget checking the other FAQs too)

As an alternative, try using makebootfat, usage explained in these posts:

As another alternative, try the method depicted here:

With regards to GHOST, have a look here:
http://forum.winimage.com/viewtopic.php?t=248
with links to a (supposedly) working solution for CD, that will work, with the needed adjustments, to a USB stick.

Moreover, JaxonD24 has recently published a solution for PXE booting from which one could get some additional ideas:
