A new site for placing the latest wb versions, screenshots and some quick-start guides has just been created.
You can visit it at
http://winbuilder.netInside the downloads section you can also find a few projects to try out, including the newer
project to test Windows NCLI (Native Command Line Interface)
Hope you like it..

You always make such nice sites, do you use templates? Where do you get them? Or are you one of those people that actually know HTML (unlike me who just knows google)

Thank you!
Glad you liked it.
I know my way around HTML/PHP codings and I use templates whenever possible.
The new winbuilder site is based on e107 CMS -->
http://e107.orgThere are a lot of templates and plugins that come available as default but sometimes you still have to learn a bit of HTML to correct some details - if you ran into any complications settings up this CMS post your doubts and I'll try to help.
Don't forget to sign the
guestbook, would be great to read your feedback there..

Tried downloading the beta WB ( have tried the previous stable ) several times. Was unable to extract using any program I have - latest Winrar, latest ExtractNow, latest 7-zip. All gave error messages like Winrar:
! Seek error in the file C:\Winbuilder\WinBuilder073.zip
! An attempt was made to move the file pointer before the beginning of the file.
Tried 4 downloads. Same messages. And, worse I deleted the working WB to make room for this.....
Any thoughts, other than I'm dumb?

Hi natchez!
Don't think you're dumb at all - you've done all the correct steps.
Unfortunatelly (?) I've downloaded the beta at the first time using firefox and extracted without any issues at all.
I've used tugzip and also tried with the internal windows zip unarchiver both with good results and no annoyances here.
The filesize of the this zipped file is 842.985 bytes - is this the same value you get?
--------------
If you hadn't mentioned that the same download was repeated several times I'd say it was a corrupt download - are you using Internet Explorer?
My impression is that it might be a fault from the internal IE file cache - it will sometimes hold a file in cache even if corrupted and when you request a new download from the same location it will simply provide the file found on cache.
wb itself will use the IE engine to download files - an MD5 verification is added on each downloaded file against the list of updates from the web to ensure IE doesn't trick wb.
Under an IE window click on Tools --> Options --> Eliminate files to clear things up and try again.
Good luck!

Using FireFox 2.0 to download all the time. Never a problem with any zipfile before. Just tried Internet Explorer as you suggested. Same error when attempting unzipping. The filesize each time with either program is 842,975.
Just tested by going to MajorGeeks website, downloaded a zip package, and as usual unzipped OK. I use Winrar daily.
We are dealing with the file that is being downloaded thru the link at the website in your first post above, WinBuilder073.zip.

Downloaded Tugzip 3.4.0.2 and tried it. Does nothing. The test says all OK. Tried it on another zipfile just downloaded from elsewher and that works as expected. Very strange. I am doomed to not run wb. By the way, TugZip shows the exe file within and does nothing when trying to extract.

Just to clear doubts - I've tested using this link:
http://winbuilder.net/download.php?view.1This is very strange - can someone else please confirm this annoyance?
You're using firefox - would you please also try to clear the cache of FF?
Let's see how it works..

FWIW I just downloaded Winbuilder 073, 072 and I think 053 using Win XP and IE 6 all with no problems. Check the logs for your AV and AS sw.

Guess I'll just need to think all this over to see what's going on. I cleared the FF cache, then went to the link you gave and re-downloaded. TugZip and Winrar won't extract. Cleared IE cache and re-downloaded. Again, neither will extract. Then used TugZip to open several different zips in my BartPE folder. No problems. I have never seen this before. I unzip and unrar files daily. Remember, I've tried Winrar, Tugzip, ExtractNow, 7-zip, and Total Commander builtin extract.

Hmm.. I'm left out of ideas for the moment.
In the meanwhile you can also get the latest beta from the topic where all beta 073 versions are placed -->

OK, this is what conniving souls can do to solve a proble. Opened up Ubuntu 7.10 in a VMware VM, downloaded the file from your link at your website, used linux builtin archiving tool to extract, dragged the zipfile and also the .exe over to my Windows XP desktop. Moved them to the Winbuilder folder and ran the .exe with no problems. Tried WinRar on the zipfile and it opens. Freaks me out!
Oh, I also tested before by turning off Anti-Virus and ZoneAlarm. They were not causing the problem......
Thanks, Nuno, and Ed P.

The good file (downloaded with FireFox in linux ) is exactly 842,985 bytes and ends correctly with the following ten hex bytes :
3C 00 00 00 97 DC 0C 00 00 00
The file I seem to always get with FireFox and Internet Explorer on Windows XPsp2 ( 842,975 ) is missing those last 10 bytes each time. By the way, I just upgraded FireFox to 2.0.0.9 after this happened to see if that changed anything. It didn't. Shut down and re-started computer. Tried without anti-virus and firewall.
Tried downloading several zipfiles from other sites in Ubuntu then in XP. All files compare exact in UltraCompare. Only that one file from that one site comes thru different. Please understand, this is not a reflection on your site or your actual file. It is a reflection on my personal 40 some years dealing with computers, starting with keypunchers ( no one here will know what that was...ha!), and my absolute lack of a clear answer to understanding - what's happening with this? In any case, merely think of this as one of the little puzzles that sometimes come drifting by for one's amusement. Thanks for your advice.

Make sure you do not have WINDOWS DEFENDER running without your knowledge.
There seems to be a bug with this program where it changes the hash of a file and drops the ending bits for some reason, and just because you did not intend to install or turn it on does not mean it was not pushed down the line by MS in the form of an update of some kind.

FWIW I run Windows Defender and it was running when I did my downloads. If fact, I'm sure how to shut it down.

This is some puzzle indeed - glad you're one of those rare people (nowadays) who know your way around debugging these voodoo events - I was afraid of suggesting things a bit more "crazy" to try but now I won't have that complex anymore..

Try the following:
netants - download accelerator - very fast downloads with integrity check -->
http://www.netants.com/wget - try the win32 port of the linux download program -->
http://users.ugent.be/~bpuype/wget/direct link - try the direct download link to wb073 -->
http://winbuilder.net/e107_files/downloads/WinBuilder073.zipNever had to use a keypuncher but trust me when I say that my keys are punched enough on daily basis..

btw:
Welcome to the forums!

Nuno, thanks for the suggestions. I'll check them out. By the way, keypunchers were machines to punch cards for processing in early 'computers'. One of my first jobs out of school was as a DP Manager. Those were sexist days so they hired me, a man, to supervise a large dept. of girls who would take data and keypunch into 80-column cards. Those would be loaded into sorters and readers, then processed by a machine with loaded programs. I would write the commands on a large pad with spaced squares, and a clerk would enter the command cards as the runtime program. I had to learn how to use the punchers but I was too slow, and anyway it was deemed unseemly for the Manager to actually do such 'manual labor'.
Ahhh, those were the Good Ol' Days! ....NOT! That lasted long enough for me to learn Cobol, RPG, etc., then quickly on to better fun things.
And Ed, I have no idea any more what number they were. I can't remember my phone number!
Thanks, guys, wonderful project.

I was organizing the files inside the download folder - you can try it again and it should work fine now.
btw: Thuun has released a more recent version of his project a few days ago - you might want to check the discussion page to get this newer version -->
