Hello,
i use the newest 'Bootable USB-Drive Utility'. I format a USB stick with FAT32. When i try to use the memtest option at the start menu, i get the error message:
Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory.
I have 3GB RAM. What is wrong?
fuwi
@knoks

try this:
download Memtest86+ USB Installer from here: http://www.memtest.org/download/4.20/memte...b.installer.zip
create a bootable Memtest86+ USB stick and boot it on the same computer
-> same error?

@fuwi

the bootable Memtest86+ USB-stick works for me.

@Fuwi

Thank you for your fanastic work.

Now, i'm trying to implement into my build the very interesting ideas from

http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=24480

I think that can be the right way how to integrate drivers.

Do you think, it's possible to implement this into your utility ?

I don't know grub, so i think for you can be that much more easier.

Thank you

I don't know grub,

That's not a problem, since we are talking of grub4dos, which is NOT GRUB (legacy) and NOT GRUB (GRUB2).

jaclaz

@jaclaz

So much the more i am out off :-)

But the idea is something i look for.
I don-t like the idea of integrating all drivers to Bartpe, so i use kares utility to inject drivers from packs.
Everything is fine, but new chipsets (ICH10) goes to BSOD 7b without any additional drivers.
F6 floppy method is non flexible. So this way with virtual floppy is right thing for me.

My question was if its possible to add it to fuwi utility, or if its bullshit and i must use grub4dos.

Sure smile.gif, but the point is that fuwi's utility already use grub4dos as a base.

So you can already "mod" something created with fuwi's utility to include these new findings, as I see the only thing to check is the actual version of grub4dos currently used in fuwi's utilities to verify it supports the .bat files (I doubt it) and if it is the case replace the grub4dos with a newer version.

It is not at all bulshit and it should be trivial to add the feature to a new release of the utilities, but heck, the whole thing came out a few days ago, and you need to give fuwi some time (if he wishes to do so) to update the utilities. blink.gif

All in all the question:
QUOTE
its possible to add it to fuwi utility?

has as an answer: YES. smiling9.gif
http://homepages.tesco.net/J.deBoynePollar...no-answers.html

The answer to the question:
QUOTE
When it wil be available a new release of fuwi's utilities with this added feature?

is instead "blowing in the wind" whistling.gif

If your question, on the other hand would be:
QUOTE
OK, I prepared a stick with fuwi's utility, how can I add to it the features of DPMS.7z?

It may have as an answer in a small set of instructions and tests, if you are game for this, you could start a new thread aptly titled and we could try to help you get to that result. smile.gif

@jaclaz

I really don't see big difference between my question and your opinion.

I think i have enough experience with pe-like environments to do it for myself, but :

1) i have no knowledge about grub-like boot managers - it would take time, which i don't actually have
2) the idea wasn't my
3) i think it's not good habit to take some others work and try to ruin it

So i asked Fuwi.

And by the way my question was directed to @Fuwi; i think he doesn't need his own Press Secretary :-)

My initial reply was ONLY intended to disambiguate grub from grub4dos. (one of my favourite hobbies, intended to avoid people possibly incurring in misunderstandings).

Since then, you were addressing me, you know, like in wink.gif:
QUOTE (profp62 @ Sep 13 2011, 12:20 PM) *

and I was replying to you, just trying to help you solve a problem "now" without waiting for when fuwi will have time.

That's a rather negative viewpoint. If you read through this thread you will find that others have made changes to fuwi's app and improved it rather than ruined it. And fuwi has incorporated these improvements into his app in almost every case.

And if you're an experienced tech you will know to make a backup to anything you will try to change so you can back out the change should it not work. wink.gif

So, you have nothing to loose by trying to get to where you want to be. And you may gain some knowledge along the way. happy62.gif

I respectfully disagree, "time" will flow (in a single direction) anyway.

If you don't have *your* time available to do something, you cannot spend it doing the whatever you are after, but you need to use it to do some other things that have a higher priority.

Sure, if instead of doing more important/urgent things you sit idle waiting then you are wasting your time.

Ok, i tried this DPMS method on a USB stick which i have created with my utility.
I made a first function test on a Lenovo T60 laptop (Intel SATA controller).

The chenall utility detects the SATA controller correctly: thumbsup.gif

but in BartPE, the floppy drive doesn't exists. thumbdown.gif

Thank you for your time.

I still hope it can be the right way ...

Please, can you be more specific, how did you implement it ?
My problem (one off ..) is i don't have any knowledge about things like grub any kind.
(i must find time on weekend)

Maybe i understand it totally wrong; my idea was :
For pc's where i will get BSOD 7b, i press F6 and i have available this virtual floppy with correct drivers and i manually choose them.
I didn't think the process must be fully automatic...

P.S.

My apologies - This reply is really "first impression" without deeper studying.

Once more thank you

I followed the instructions from here: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?s=&...st&p=169525

Note (Layout):
\dpms\... means stick-root\dpms\...

I replaced the grldr file on my stick with the version from 18-Sept-2011 from here: http://code.google.com/p/grub4dos-chenall/...b-2011-09-18.7z

I copied this menu option in my menu.lst on my stick:
CODE
title Boot BartPE (dpms) \n Auto SCSI/RAID/SATA Driver for NT5.X by chenall
ls /dpms/dpms.bat ||find --set-root --ignore-floppies /dpms/dpms.bat
/dpms/dpms.bat
chainloader /minint/setupldr.bin

If i boot this menu option, dpms.bat creates a virtual F6-floppy (fd1), but when i press F6 in BartPE, i get this:
QUOTE
Setup could not find a floppy drive on your machine to load
OEM drivers from floppy disk.

I don't know why it creates a fd1 and not a fd0 floppy, maybe F6 accept only a primary floppy drive?

Dpms seems to be prepared for a two floppy driver issue. And BIOS may be importand.

Process dpms.bat only: does exist a empty (fd0) ?

Works here at a T60
CODE
title Boot BartPE (dpms) - map fd testing \n Auto SCSI/RAID/SATA Driver for NT5.X by chenall
ls /dpms/dpms.bat ||find --set-root --ignore-floppies /dpms/dpms.bat
/dpms/dpms.bat
ls (fd0)/ || map (fd1) (fd0)
ls (fd0)/ || map --hook
chainloader /minint/setupldr.bin

dpms (fd1) works at Vmware Player and vmscsi.sys, PloP boot manager at (fd0).

fuwi
@cdob

QUOTE
...
ls (fd0)/ || map (fd1) (fd0)
ls (fd0)/ || map --hook
...

This does the trick! thumbsup.gif

In the F6 menu, the correct Intel ICH9/ICH10 SATA driver is now shown on my Lenovo T60, i select it, but BartPE doesn't install the driver,
so i have no access to the Harddrive. thumbdown.gif

I have now no ICH10 available, only HP mini NB with ICH7, but it seems to be functional ! "Normal" BartPE boot - no disks, DPMS with cdob trick - disk is visible and
WITHOUT F6 press ...
I'm using newest DPMS.bat 2011-9-22 00:27.

Need more test, but ...

I made test on five NBs without problem. (Yes, i still don't have access to ICH10 MB).

; and from DriverPack site

; Expand archiv to dpms\

; Rename dpms\DriverPack_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32.ini to dpms\DriverPack.ini
;
; edit fuwi's grub4dos-menu_with_BartPE (for version 1.9.7 only)
;
; and add
;
; title Boot BartPE (dpms) \n Auto SCSI/RAID/SATA Driver for NT5.X by chenall (DPMS in programs)
; ls /PROGRAMS/dpms/dpms.bat ||find --set-root --ignore-floppies /PROGRAMS/dpms/dpms.bat
; /PROGRAMS/dpms/dpms.bat
; ls (fd0)/ || map (fd1) (fd0)
; ls (fd0)/ || map --hook
; chainloader /minint/setupldr.bin
;

Hi

My question has nothing to do with BartPe, but i need once more help from some GRUB4DOS guru ...
I'm using DPMS kind of boot for some time with full success and satisfaction. Now one of my co-workers needed
to install Windows XP to SATA controller equipped notebook.
My idea was - to use the same logic for installing XP on ANY controller with DPMS and grub made diskette, but i failed
on syntax ...

My attempts like

title Boot Windows installation on non-supported controller \n Auto Boot Windows Harddisk Controller Driver
ls /PROGRAMS/dpms/dpms.bat ||find --set-root --ignore-floppies /PROGRAMS/dpms/dpms.bat
/PROGRAMS/dpms/dpms.bat
ls (fd0)/ || map (fd1) (fd0)
map /GRUB4DOS/BOOTIMAGES/winxp/Windows-XP-Home-SP3-cz-OEM.iso (0xff) || map --mem /GRUB4DOS/BOOTIMAGES/winxp/Windows-XP-Home-SP3-cz-OEM.iso (0xff)
map --hook
chainloader (0xff)

or

title Boot Windows installation on non-supported controller \n Auto Boot Windows Harddisk Controller Driver
ls /PROGRAMS/dpms/dpms.bat ||find --set-root --ignore-floppies /PROGRAMS/dpms/dpms.bat
/PROGRAMS/dpms/dpms.bat
ls (fd0)/ || map (fd1) (fd0)
ls (fd0)/ || map --hook
chainloader /I386/setupldr.bin

are non functional stupidity of course.

Can someone help me with correct syntax ? (with ISO or with /i386 directory)
Then i think this would be the simple way without any custom ISO's or diskette drives.

Thank you
jaclaz
"non functional" is unfortunately not a good enough description.
What happens?
What can you see on the screen?
Are you expereiencing a problem with the grub4dos part or later when you try accessing the F6 floppy?
etc., etc.

If the issue is in the grub4dos part, a good idea is ALWAYS (when experimenting) use command line and NOT a pre-made menu.lst, as you will have better feedback from grub4dos.

The first syntax (with iso) seems not to have diskette at all and
second (with i386 directory) boots to bart from /minint directory, what i almost expected.
Yes command line is good idea.

"Kick-Booting" (aka as "XP Kansas City Shuffle" or "Fake Signature" method) works only with hard disks or sticks with a hard disk setup.

I am not sure to understand the question, there is NO image in that screenshot, only a solid colour background, a menu with an image may look somehow like this one:
http://www.rmprepusb.com/_/rsrc/1336815030...dos/menupos.jpg

The rest is one of the "plainest" GFXBOOT setups.

See if these help:

More generally google for "grub4dos gfxboot" (without quotes).
