Beware of what you say.

You can have your posting abilities removed, or in COMPLETE censorship have your discussion deleted away from the boards.

I'm really not trying to "stir the ****" but I find it completely appalling to see all those posts removed. Just because an Admin or Mod doesn't like what we say, doesn't mean they have the right to delete the posts!! There was nothing vulgar, racial, threatening, etc. in those posts, yet they are gone. This is just wrong.

Yup, this is a well moderated board. SPAM postings are deleted, porn postings are deleted, posters of warez are warned and posters of threatening and insulting remarks to other members are warned and their posting rights removed. Maybe you allow those types of postings on your forum but we don't here.

As for the particular postings you reference, since they were way off topic I took Bananenpaule's suggestion

If you`re fond of administrative discussions, you should add an administrative subforum to the board tongue.gif
and moved them to the admin/mod section of the forums. Since you don't have access to that section you can not see them but I can assure you they weren't deleted.

Just for the record (and to make other members understanding what this is all about).

For a number of reasons, there was a completely off topic series of post in this thread:
http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?sho...c=11667&hl=
that was "resurrected", after roughly one year and a half, by a new post.

This fact raised a question on the opportunity to close a topic after a given period of inactivity.

Stances:
Ed_P <-ADMIN-> expressed his opinion that this should be done
paraglider <-MOD-> expressed his opinion that this should be done
jaclaz <-MOD-> expressed his opinion that this should never be done without a need
in the same topic:
SteelTrepid <-Silver member-> expressed his opinion that this should never be done
Bananenpaule <-Member-> expressed his opinion that this should never be done

These latter two opinions, though appreciated (expecially by me wink.gif) are of course not relevant to the actual decision that will be made by Ed_P.

The OFF-topic thread was then moved to the Administrative Subforum, in order to hear the opinions of the other Mods, opinions which may influence Ed_P's final decision.

Your smart ass comments about a "well" moderated board is bull. I know of plenty boards that get to that crap as quickly if not quicker than you guys do. My personal forum, we do not allow that kind of behavior either. In the 4 1/2 years my board has been up I think I have only deleted maybe 2 or 3 posts (not counting spam) because I BELIEVE that people should not be censored. You just got upset because what YOU think is right is not what everyone else thinks. Sure I believe it got a little out of hand, but not to be removed.

Whatever, it's still censorship.

I'm gonna go hang out with Frodo from now on.
Bananenpaule
As we are no admins/mods, threre is no difference for us to deleted. So don`t quote me in this context mad.gif , this was not my intention. In modern times administration is public for the people and with the people. Are you a follower of the old prussian style?
I`ll never forget what happend with frodo. If there is no spice in the forums, it becomes dull. People who can`t stand it : entrench yourself in a fall-out shelter thumbdown.gif

Ed - you just prooved that it is not - I have seen those posts and there is no reason that would justify your decision to remove them.

You have done more harm to this forum than thousands of off-topic posts could do.

I miss reading Frodo's off-topic crock of needless remarks. hysterical.gif

For those who are interested, I spoke with Frodo a few hours ago and he is alive and doing a little better, healthwise.
He will never frequent this board again, but is still very much full of shite and said he may pop up elsewhere sometime next month or so. thumbsup.gif

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Censorship, the way it has been applied to this forum has driven off a lot of the real talent that got things started.

Brilliance is often over-shadowed by personality flaws and lute behavior like eating cheese naked in front of the keyboard, or having your signature a remark about killing your neighbors. Even when belligerent, Frodo, CWorks, DW and many others that have been driven off by the way censorship has been applied here will mean that the newer generation of users finding this forum will never know what it is like to really enjoy what you are working on. You cannot do this type of work and not play around at every given opportunity without loosing your marbles.

Charisma cannot be taught in a class or learned from a book, you either have it or you do not.

For what it's worth:

1. I read those posts too before they were removed. In my opinion, they should have either been left or split to a forum area that everyone has access to since there was nothing offensive in them. Indeed, the issues raised there affect everyone, which leads to

2. I'm with Jaclaz, topics should not be closed. But now the discussion has been primarily moved to an inaccessible admin forum, which is disappointing.

3. A user should be able to edit their posts, particularly first posts containing links etc. In my case, I could no longer edit my OfflineSysPrep first posts which was really annoying, which was leading me to consider moving them elsewhere where there isn't such restrictions, but then I was given admin rights to the sub-forum.

Regards,
Galapo.

I was pleasantly surprised this summer to see he was still signing on.

Again for the record, since this "policy change" happened without much publicity, there were never this kind of restrictions before, but the change was needed to stop (and avoid the always possible repeating of) a very nasty affair.

A user started sistematically editing all his posts, removing all their contents; no matter the actual validity or value of the "wiped" posts, this behaviour left a number of threads incomprehensible or lacking some key info, thus completely ruining their usefulness.

This behaviour, represents, as I call it, "stealing from the public knowledge". angry.gif

Anything posted in a public forum becomes a resource for the whole community, and needs to be preserved.

Both Admin and Mods will gladly fix any problem this policy may cause, by either editing the member posts at their request, or, as it happened for Galapo and his "OfflineSysprep" project, find an alternate arrangement.

jaclaz
Galapo
Jaclaz, that seems quite reasonable. Given the unfortunate situation and the desire not to have it happen again, it would seem some inconvenience is unavoidable for both "admins" and "users".

Regards,
Galapo.

Hey what the heck, one of my old "fight'n" buddies!! Haven't seen you in a long time! Or maybe I've been subliminally ignoring your posts?? Nice to see Peter still smoke'n the weed.

Anyways, my thoughts exact on the limitation on editing posts. I think what happened really sucks! People have argued with me that posts need to be editable in my forum and I now KNOW that my points are valid. I wasn't really worried about what happened here, my main argument was people editing posts to make the responses to the post look stupid. What happened here was just BS.
How much of a hassle is it for a user to contact an Admin and ask them to change their link??? I don't think it would happen that often so it wouldn't be a big deal!

<possibly interpreted as a troll like comment>
Well after being informed that statements were being made about me, and that there was some confusion/misinformation about my login frequency, i thought id clear the air.

I am not still signing in or paying attention to this forum, in fact i barely do much of any PE related stuff, like WinBuilder etc.
The last time i logged on was many months ago to help a newbie shortly after i announced i was going, because i am not a complete bastard and the question was directed to me.

So please Ed, and with no animosity meant, stop giving people the impression that im still somehow involved or secretly logging in, im not. I quit, its been over for ages.

That's all i have to say. Im not interested in any further commentary.
</possibly interpreted as a troll like comment>

p.s. Highlander, ill catch you again soon on the same bat channel. Hope things are improving for you.

p.p.s. Everyone else, have a great christmas, ill be at home in the country babysitting 2 dogs next week for 4 weeks. One of the dogs needs to be fed phenobarbitone every morning, lucky it needs it, because i was just going to try feeding it random drugs out of the cabinet till i found one that made it do something that amused me. Most of the village will be away, so i plan some stunts in their absence using the village as a backdrop. Nudity (perhaps combined with cheese) cannot be ruled out....

p.p.s. CWorks, i miss the rants and truck talk, oh and the odd scatalogical reference

And here i log out, very definately for the last time....any replies will be going >NUL in my world as i dont visit, so save your digits the trouble ....have a good one
