I have bartpe without sp1 for Windows XP Pro.

I'm trying to reinstall windows off of the Bartpe disk like I've done before, but all the searching I've done has came up empty handed. I made bartpe off of the I386 file(or whatever that file is called for preinstall windows with compaq computers) and all i have to do is open the right .exe file to start Windows Xp install. If someone could tell me what that file name was it would be greatly appreciated. I hope this isn't a frequent question but if it is, let me know and I'll delete my post.

useful info:

Bart PE & OEM Windows Install Repair
assuming you can not get to windows even safe Mode.

Boot From Bart PE CD

start>programs>A43 File Managment Utility
(Do not use i386 folder on the CD)
If you got A recovery cd or if the recovery is on Hard disk partition and you press F10 or F11 to start recovery on boot up; your PC did not come with proper Windows Bootable CD.
there is usually a folder ,named i386 containing all Windows Installation files ,on Root directory C: or in C:\Windows folder.the i386 folder which you want has a lot of files with
extensions ending in UnderScore_ along with the executable files,(.exe) expand.exe and WinNT32.exe.(copy this folder to CD for safe keeping)

now double click on winNt32.exe to start installation process.
if it asks you to upgrade to NTFS say No if asks you to update from Net say No)
(you need your Windows product key from the bottom of Laptop even at this stage)

When installation program closes reboot your PC and remove Bart PE CD .

and you get a Menu choose Microsoft Windows XP setup .and press enter on key board.
the installation will Pick up where it left off.
At first Menu Choose to install Windows.
(Do Not Choose repair Console Option)
When setUp program Detects that There is already A windows OS on the C: hard drive
It gives you an option to Repair the existing Windows or install fresh.
Choose R (repair existing Windows)

it is interactive setup and you need to enter keyboard option and Network option.
All your settings and all your Applications eg. Office are kept by the repair installation.
at the end it will ask for for your login password and there is a need to activate windows even before you get in to desk top.
if you activate through the internet and enter the genuine Microsoft product key from the bottom of the laptop it gets rejected.
so you need to choose option to ring Microsoft on the FREE phone number, need to speak to
operator explain that you are doing repair installation in order to keep your data and settings.
he will give you some numbers to enter in the text box and then it is finally finished.
and hopefully you get to desk top.
