I was reading the reduce the memory footprint post, but it refers to files that don't exist like the config.inf and the txtsetup.inf. There not in my winpe.wim image when i mount it. Or am i doing it the wrong way? I want to get winpe to boot a bit faster its kinda slow when booting up.

There are TWO main "versions" of WinPE:
1.x XP/2003 based (NO .wim) uses SETUPLDR.BIN and txtsetup.sif
2.x Vista/2008 based (.wim)

They are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT things, you cannot mix one with the other.

Im using the WinPE 2.0 vista based ver. I use the winpe.wim to mount and change my tools folder, update my .def files ect. Is there way to speed up its boot process?

In the help-files contained in the WAIK of VistaPE are some howto's to make PE boot faster but I haven't noticed any significant speedup.

I mainly think it's because Vista is doing a mini-setup to detect hardware etc during boot like linux live-systems. The advantage of Linux is that you see all the cool/nerdy output of those freeware gadgets - as Vista is microsoft you see nothing and wait till the system is up... happy71.gif happy71.gif happy71.gif

Next to that VistaPE is putting the whole wim-file into RAM and even reading that takes some time... happy68.gif happy68.gif happy68.gif

Make a smaller PE 2.x.

Check these two Winbuilder projects:
