Full Version: Dynamic mounting

Hi All,

New here. I am not even sure if this thread belongs here.. as this is not really about "Booting from CD". Here is my issue..

I wish to mount and unmount .iso files to virtual drive, with as little hassle as possible. "Installing" big programs like daemon etc are out.. I tried with two small utilities..

The microsoft VCD Control Tool.
- Serves teh purpose great.. but there are a bit too many "manual" steps involved as there is no command line option.

Filedisk
- Great for including in a script, but needs a reboot.

Is there any option to have the best of both the worlds.. Command line option + No reboot?

Thanks a lot.

-Regards
Rajesh

IMDISK may be an option. There are a few theeads here at 911 that describe some examples of what it can do.

Filedisk can be used without rebooting providing you do some homework. Pcuser has posted the source code of how to do it on msfn.
We use a program called unisofs.exe which mounts - extracts then unmounts an iso file using filedisk with no reboot, this is also written by pcuser.

Check out his section of the ubcd4win forum for more details.

Thanks hilander, from one of the pointers you gave, i got hold of instdrvw. With filedisk exe and sys, Works like a charm. (I didn't need shell extension, or anything more than absolutely necessary).

Thanks a lot.

Just for the record, a thread with a list of similar drivers is here:

a few of them will also work as "virtual CD".
