I'm trying to make a Bootable DOS CDROM so I can run a DOS USB Diagnostics application on my Dell Latitude D620 Laptop (Win XP SP3) with CDRW/DVD (HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4244).

I'm following the instructions for making a Bootable DOS CDROM at http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/ but am running into problems, perhaps because I have an unsupported CDRW/DVD drive. When I boot from the CDROM the DOS prompt gets to UNPACK: Extracting "a:\lib\atapicd.cab and doesn't progress, requiring a PC reboot.

I've tried using BartPE to make a bootable Win CDROM with the DIAGUSB.EXE application. I can make the disk, but when I try to run the application in a DOS prompt, the cursor just blinks and nothing happens.

Is there a way to boot from a BartPE CDROM to DOS Prompt directly, or another way to make a Bootable DOS CDROM?

Thanks.

On that page:
QUOTE (http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/)
This page is not for you if:
  • you want to create just 1 simple bootable CD-Rom. You should use Cdrwin, Nero or any other well known application to create CDs
  • you do not understand basic things like;
    • difference between a bootdisk and a boot image
    • CDR, CDRW medium
    • unpacking, copying, editing or renaming files

How big is the original program(s)/ floppy? Or is it a multiple floppies?

If the floppy is 1.44, you can use the much easier el-torito floppy emulation way.

Read this seemingly unrelated thread:

If it's a two floppies, you can make a 2.88 Mb floppy image (still usable as el-torito emulation) using for example Winimage:
