Anyone using it? Any problems?

I have one problem with it, every time I start it I get a window stating that I have an add-on that can cause IE to stop responding or crash. I select the Keep using this add-on option and IE8 doesn't crash or fail but the next time I start IE8 I get the same window. Is there a way for IE8 to remember the prior response and to stop prompting me?

never use it myself, think IE is crap

After using Firefox in full time I never had troubles with IE again.

I let WU install it last night on my test laptop, no problems so far, but I've only played around for an hour or so. I like the idea of the new accelerators, but the web slices thingy just seems like a another mini tab bar. It will take some time before I install it on my box for sure.

Did you watch the videos on the new features?
What's new in IE8
The above works in FF, BTW smile.gif

The fact is, this Browser (IE8) seems to me to be crap. Other browsers may be better. I prefer them becouse IE doesn't even follow www standarts.

You even don't know what's hidden on the installation of some Microsoft products.
P.s. I'm using Opera now and it's perfect for me.

Yea, I just compared IE8 memory usage compared to FF. Both with ONE tab open:
IE8 - 78 megs
FF3010 - 57 megs

Also, my FF also has 6 addons/plugins installed, the IE8 is a fresh install.

You would think since IE can use some internal code, things would be the opposite.

You can't be talking about me, I use IE 11 hours a day @ work. I just choose to use FF @ home. Sorry, I didn't mean to ruin your day.

Ed,

Hi my name’s Feran and I am working with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team to help provide assistance to folks about their Internet Explorer.

Try going in and managing your add-ons. In IE go to ‘tools’ and ‘manage add-ons’ then disable/enable as necessary.

I hope this helps.

Hello Feran. Thank you for joining the forum.

I know how to enable and disable add-ons in IE8. The problem is the particular enabled add-on requires me to respond to a popup warning window each and every time I start IE8. Disabling the add-on removes the popup warning but also removes the functionality of the add-on.

I would prefer an option that allows me to enable the add-on and acknowledge the warning once and be done with it, not the same warning over and over and over again.

BTW At this point there is no newer version of the add-on than the one I have.

What add-on?

Sounds like a hex edit may fix that. ninja.gif

Thanks for the welcome Ed. I am not tech support, however if you can give me a little more info I will send it on and perhaps be able help you resolve the issue you are experiencing. What add-on is it? And what kind of computer and operating system are you using?

Thanks!
Feran
Ed_P
The systems are both running XP Home SP3, the add-on is Virtual Account Numbers, powered by Orbiscom, version 3.7.0.0/134.
feranm_ie8team
Thanks Ed, just a couple more things....Do you know what the warning is? Is it IE or the add-on who is sending the pop up?

Thanks!
Feran

This is what I see.

Well strange... biggrin.gif
Does the checkbox on the bottom of dialog anything? Or dialog displays all the time regardless of this checkbox?
What i think it's strange "feature" or IE8 whitch blocks certain addons and/or other scripts.
There should be a way how yo fix it...

Anyway the time would show how to fix and/or hack it... Good luck smile.gif

Run a reghot of that addon being installed. Then compare the used clsid to what you find here....
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility

procmon should be able to tell you what key is giving the non-compatible flag.

I'm not installing it, it's already a part of my IE6. IE8's upgrade automatically includes it.
