Full Version: Cloning a notebook HDD to another (equal) notebook

Hi,

I am using Acronis True Image to back up my HDD images and have been happy with it, but was recently asked if there wasn't an easy method to clone one notebook's HDD to another notebook of the same type.
ANd then I thought... in this case, probably connecting both with a network cable would be the way to go.
I just never did that yet.
And then, it would be nice to write a script, so the copy would be done at a click without asking the usual details, because every copying procedure would be the same anyway.
(The second notebook serves as an emergency backup).

I'd be glad if someone had some suggestions!

Thanks and Cheers,
Dominique

IMO Unless the backup device has the exact same mainboard with the same controllers and etc it's unlikely it would work.

Hi Ed,

yes, it would be the exactly same notebook.
I wonder if booting an Acronis boot CD would make a network connection rather easy or complicated...?

Cheers,

If the hw is the same I suggest taking a current Acronis backup of your live nb and restoring it to the backup nb then see if the backup boots.

What OS is on the backup nb now?
