Full Version: How I "got rid of" Tun Miniport

Greetings.
Yesterday I achieved something I didn't even have on my mind when I started the day.
I did a routine defrag & registry backup on one of my XP laptops;
so when I found the tun miniport fix published by ZAZULA @ Tech Support Forums,
I was ready to massively edit the registry. Unfortunately the fix was not a success.
The two tun miniport entries with error code 10 simply changed names to WAN ...
with error codes 10, so I restored the registry.
Then I found a posting by Leroy @ Techarena.in, who claimed
to have fixed the error code 10 message but could not uninstall the tun miniport.

Leroy's posting gave me the idea to install a different driver on the tun miniport entries.
I have/use USB link cable, which is also called USB miniport.
I had no expectations but also had no other possible solutions.
I ignored the warning not to install the driver,
then ignored the warning that the driver was not digitally signed,
then ignored the warning(s) that the devices
were deactivated (code 22) or would not start (code 10).
I then tried to uninstall the former tun miniport entries
which were now called Hi-Speed USB ... and,
instead of XP telling me the device could not be uninstalled
because the device might be necessary for startup, XP UNISTALLED the entries!
I've rebooted several times & used this method to uninstall/remove the tun miniports
from all three of my XP laptops. The tun miniports have not mysteriously reappeared either!
Regards,
AEN

Well, without knowing what the heck " tun miniport" is w00t.gif (which appears to be something self -explaining, as you completely fail to describe it) and without ANY link to the references you make, I guess that all I can say is:
QUOTE
Congratulations, you made it! thumbup.gif

What is the "it" you actually succeeded with the removal of remains a total mistery, hmm.gif as well as why one would need to uninstall "it". unsure.gif

This 5 year old link should explain what it is, and also how to remove it. http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1096356491

Sure, this definitely clears it:

Luckily, it's also part of XP Embedded:

Thanks, but I am exactly where I was before (square #1). rolleyes.gif

This is a bit better:

"Microsoft Tun Miniport Adapter (comes with Microsoft Windows 2003 .Net Server), a network driver that provides a tunnel with a File API interface, through which a user-mode Windows application or service can interact with the network stack as if the application were a network interface."

but basically, all I can get is that you want IP v6 compatibility on XP/2003 you need it, if you use IP v4, you don't need it:

I don't get it. unsure.gif sad.gif

There wasn't anything "hostile" in my post, and definitely not anything that should trigger such a reply.

I simply posted a few facts:
  1. that you omitted detailing what a "tun miniport" is
  2. that you gave not any "proper" reference to the posts on which you report you based your removal method
  3. that I was unable to understand what you were talking about
  4. that I was unable to understand the reason to uninstall the "tun miniport driver"

On the contrary I tried congratulating with your success, notwithstanding the fact that I wasn't able to understand what it was about.

Unless something has changed lately, I had the idea that if one posts on a public forum it is because he wants to let other people know what he did (and thus also hear what other people want to say about it).
