Full Version: Which Boot CD do you recommend?

I am currently using Hirens Boot CD, but there is to much dodgy software on it.

Therefore I am looking for an easy Win PE (light weight) solution so that I can install Windows from network shares.

Therefore I must be able to add network drivers easily, connect to the network (preferably automatically) and partition\format hard drives.

The more automated a solution the better.

Any advice\pointers appreciated

Thanks

Mark

Have you looked at UBCD4WIN? It is very complete and customizable.

Thanks for your replies

I have seen UBCD, but I was hoping for something a bit more lite weight as I do not need any extras addons.

Hirens CD is a bit naughty in terms of software, but the mini Windows XP boots like a bullet and connects to the network very quickly.

Thanks for your help

You are missing a "base" concept.
Let's see if we can clear it.

There are two known (apart from MS original WinPE 1.x) builders:

The idea is that everyone should choose the bricks he needs/wants and put them together to build his own version of PE containing exactly what he needs/wants, nothing more, nothing less.

The good guys at UBCD4WIN have, with years of experience, put together a PE build using PEbuilder that contains a number of softwares, all freeware or however freely available, that cover all or nearly all aspects of PC maintenance.

Obviously they try to include all the apps that they think fit to "satisfy" the widest possible audience, and, as a consequence, the build is a bit "heavy".

On the other hand, since all the bricks have been chosen wisely and properly pre-assembled, building UBCD4WIN is very easy, and is usually considered a first step for newcomers.

If you want a "good" build, in the sense of a build that does exactly what you want and has no additional things you won't use, you need to build your own.

The standard BartPE project is pretty much minimal.
Winbuilder has a large variety of projects, and also a pre-configured one, "frozen" LiveXP:

similar in easyness to UBCD4WIN.
