Has anyone had any luck with the NIC drivers for the new Dell E6410's? (WXP 32bit)
I've identified that the machines comes with the Intel 82577LM Gigabit Network controller.

Downloaded both the driver from Dell website AND directly from Intel. They are residing w/in the Drivers\Net folder
Subfolders have no spaces in the folder names. (per other users suggestions).

Still getting the "No network adapters found" message. My BartPE cd works fine with the older model Dell's (Optiplex960, 780, 760, Latitude E6400) Just not this model.

Its frustrating. If anyone can offer any assistance it would be greatly appreciated.

Thx MUCH! Mike

Did you run InfCacheBuild after creating BartPE and before creating the ISO?

No I did not. I've never had to do that in the past. Thanks for the tip. I'm a Newbie, so bear with me.

OK, I give up. Can someone tell me WHERE this INFCACHEBUILD utility IS???

Do you see the link in my sig for Adding Drivers?? Check there for a link to InfCacheBuild. Or you can manually tweak the driver's inf file, ideas for that are in the same link.

Thank you! I just downloaded it. I'll give it a crack and report back. Thanks again.

I am having the same problem with BartPE on a Dell E6410 and a Dell precision M4500, which both have the Intel 82577LM nic. I have ran InfCacheBuild and after that didn't work, I manually edited the .inf file to remove the 64 drivers and after that didn't work I also removed lines that start with CopyFiles, DelFiles, UpdateInis, DelDirs, RenFiles, Reboot.

I have tried all these things on all the drivers on Dell's website for the E6410 and M4500, along with the drivers from Intel's website for the 82577lm nic. I have used the Driver pack for WinPE and the XP drivers from Dell's website, and I've tried the server2003 and xp drivers from Intel.

I have used BartPE on most other previous dell models and haven't had this problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

What you're doing is good but needs to be refined. Choose a driver, edit the inf file, run PEBuilder, run InfCacheBuild, test the resulting BartPE. If that doesn't work, remove the driver and try another one, repeating the same steps.

BTW The impact of InfCacheBuild is on the drivers in the BartPE folder not the ones in the PEBuilder\drivers folder thus the need to rerun it for each build.

Thanks for the reply Ed. I was really thinking/hoping this was going to be the fix since I was previously running the InfCacheBuild at the wrong time, before running the pe build.

Unfortunately even after editing the .inf, running PeBuilder, running InfCacheBuild and then creating the usb stick, I am still not able to get an ip address with this Nic. I have tried the XP32 drivers and the WinPE drivers from Dells website. I have also removed all the previous drivers we've used from the PEBuilder\drivers\Net folder and am only working with the drivers for the Intel 82577lm nic in these Dell E6410's and M4500's.

We have also downloaded the driver pack and used the driver plug in and that also did not work.

Wondering if you have any other ideas on this, or if you see this Mike, did you do anything differently then what I am?

Hi Rupertt. Just saw your response. First a disclaimer: I am by no means an expert on this. So, I can only share what I've learned.
First, when you say you are using the Intel 82577lm drivers, -did you get these from the Dell support site? I found that the only ones that seemed to work was the ones I downloaded directly from Intel's site.
2nd: For me I got to the point where I had made so many tweaks, changes, edits that I couldn't keep track of them any more. So I deleted everything and started from scratch. Then I ONLY installed the INtel provided drivers. then I ran the InfCacheBuild. Then ran the build. And presto, it just worked.
-I can't tell you exactly what went wrong, or what went right. Only that I just started from scratch and it just worked.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Cheers. Mike

Thanks for sharing Mike,

I have tried all the drivers I could find, including drivers from Dell's website and drivers from Intel's website. I have tried the drivers for WinPE, WinXP, and Server2003 and I have not gotten any of these to work. I have tried editing the .inf files and running InfCacheBuild and I have tried not doing either of them, since we have not had to do either in the past with other Nic drivers.
I am completely out of ideas so I am giving up on BartPE and going to try using WinPE 3.0

Would you be willing to send me the driver files you used to get it working?
