Full Version: Universal Bart PE Guide

Hey so I created a (M$ Word document) guide for installing a universal BartPE for my workplace. Most of this is online already, but its all scattered. So here it is all in one spot with easy to follow instructions. Let me know if this helps anyone (although I'm sure most of you on this forum are much more advanced than myself). I already posted this in the driverpacks.net forum, but this is probably a more appropriate place.

Note: it goes into more detail than you really need to know. I made it so pretty much anyone could do it...

Here you go!

If I may, .docx is not exactly the "ideal format" for something that supposedly should be widely spread.

Probably a .pdf would be more advisable. wink.gif

When I downloaded the file it was saved with no extention. If I hadn't seen jaclaz's comment I wouldn't have been able to open it. I added the .docx extention which then invoked Microsoft's Office Word Viewer, which in turn required my downloading and installing their Office Compatibility Pack and rebooting. Bottom line, the file is viewable but you may have to work at it to do it.

From my brief overview it looks like an impressive piece of work. Thank you for sharing it.

[Off Topic] Some of your website's pages have pieces of javascript displaying. The fix appears to be just deleting the code in each case. [/Off Topic]

JFYI wink.gif:

Around 7,1 Mb download.

Word viewer 24.5 Mb + Office Compatibility Pack 37 Mb= 61,5 Mb

Bloat ratio of almost 10:1 (I won't test actual installed bloat ratio ph34r.gif)

If you add the not-so-trivial difference that one is an actual editor and the other is just a viewer you get a JGBR (jaclaz's global bloat ratio whistling.gif) of around 217.2:1 whistling.gif

An interesting option. Is that what you used to read the .docx document?

Because according to your links:

DevVicky Word is a replacement for Microsoft Word 2007 and all previous versions of Microsoft Word.

and .docx documents are Word 2010's new format. wink.gif

File downloaded as a docx file when I downloaded it. docx is a word 2007 format file and it opens with word 2007.

I converted to pdf. Its downloadable from here:

Most likely you have Office installed and thus your system recognized the .docx extention. I don't have Office on the nb and my system did not recognize the extention apparently and thus dropped it.

Thank you for the correction.

Of course not w00t.gif, you know how I normally throw random links to things I never used in my life. wink.gif

If you want to take part in the "2010 Mr. La Palice" 911CD yearly context you should submit an application form before December 31st, 2010. hmm.gif

Sure smile.gif, MS guys always look to the future, this must be the reason why they implemented in Word 2007 the new Word 2010 format, they are at least three years ahead of their time whistling.gif.
However, and JFYI, my opinion on it has remained the same since 2007:

Thanks for putting this together all in one place. I hadn't realized that adding SATA drivers would be a "must have". For someone just learning to create PE discs this is exceptionally helpful. I appreciate it!
