Full Version: BartPE HD Driver for HP Mini 5101
The CD Forum > Bart's PE Builder > Troubleshooting

I've really tried to solve this one - but am getting nowhere. BartPE creates a Bootable USB drive that works on my HP 5101 BUT I cannot see the local hard drive.

My systems all run WinXP-SP3 and that's what I'm using for the build.
My process is: Run PE Builder, InfoCacheBuild, Bootable USB-Drive Utility

The only error I get is during PE Builder when I get a warning about WinXP being an OEM version.

I've added the following (singly and in different combinations):

1) Using the directions on this forum (#21226) "Addings Drivers to BartPE, SATA" - I downloaded and added the BTS Driverpack for Mass Storage 10.06, followed all the directions and the The 2 Driverpacks showed up correctly in the Plugins list (MassStorgae set to YES and Base set to NO).

-That didn't work

2) Added the drivers from the HP Mini using SmartDriverBackup. The 2 drivers that showed as class='hdc' were:
Intel® 82801G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 27DF - ver. 8.2.0.1011
Intel® ICH7M_MDH SATA AHCI Controller - ver 8.9.8.1005

I created subdirectories in \pebuilder3110a\drivers\SCSIAdapter with short (no spaces) names and copied the driver files there. Modified the inf files in the 2 directories as described in this forum.

-That didn't work

Once running the device manager in BartPE shows two IDE Channels (Pri & Sec) and IDE Controller with a yellow Question Mark under 'Other Devices', also under 'Non-pnp Drivers', PartMgr has a yellow exclamation point.

What else can I report to help with troubleshooting?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

-John

Edit: I just figured out - if I go into the CMOS and set "SATA Native Mode" to Disable, then BartPE can see the hard drive fine.

2 Questions:

1) Is it safe to work on the HD in this mode?

2) I'd still like to solve the original problem as it would make the BartPE more usable for me.

added the BTS Driverpack for Mass Storage 10.06
Use a current testing version instead.

Read the integrated help files.
SCSIAdapter require txtsetup.oem, most likely this file is missing.
Add manufacturer drivers for a F6 floppy.

Sure, it is PERFECTLY safe. smile.gif

It might be - probably marginally in a PE use - a tad slower, compare:

Thanks for the info..

I downloaded the 10.0809 DriverPack. I'm not sure if I was able to load it correctly. When I ran DPs_BASE.exe it showed both the 10.06 and the 10.0809 versions with a red question next to the 10.0809 "Where did you get this?". I also tried using the PEBuilder plugin page CONFIG option on the DriverPack BASE and it looked like it was doing something but the version of the DriverPack still shows 10.06 (and thats after hitting REFRESH).

You were right, the TXTSETUP.OEM file was missing from both drivers subdirectories, I found it for 'ICH7M_MDH SATA AHCI Controller' but could not find it for the '82801G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controller'.

I rebuilt BartPE and it still didn't work. I tried the F6 Floppy option - thinking I could select the drivers manually - but it's a netbook and hence has no drive A:.

Any other thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks again for your help!

Oops - my bad. I didn't read the instructions for the driverpack fully. I needed to hit the SLIPSTREAM button! Now the 10.0809 version shows in the PEBuilder Plugin List.

But - it still didn't work. Oh well... I ran an Unknown Device List report and here is the section for the IDE Controller, if it helps any.

That's a IDE device: no need to add drivers

How do I access it? When BartPE is loading I can hit F6 but it will only read from the A: drive which I do not have.
Can I put the files under "D:\pebuilder3110a\drivers\SCSIAdapter" since it appears to have everything I need?

I'll give that a try and report back.
Thanks again

Adding the drivers to SCSIAdapter did not work.

So is there a way to change the F6 option to load from a different drive letter?

Don't mix drivers. Did you disable DriverPacks plugin?

Thank you!

It works.

Disabling the DriverPack MassStorage Plugin was the answer.

I checked the MassStorage.inf and it had the correct PCI\VEN number pointing to an identical SYS file (I expanded it and did a binary compare). Don't know if the order of the PCI\VEN numbers in MassStorage.inf has anything to do with it. I may try moving that one line to the top of the list and see what happens - but not today.

Thanks again for your help.
