Full Version: Running Windows 7 setup from BartPE
The CD Forum > Bart's PE Builder > General

Hey everyone,

I have all the latest drivers installed on my BartPE, and a couple of laptops that don't have an opticla drive any more. This is whyI would like to use this Windows XP BartPE to run the windows 7 setup program. Does anyone have an idea how this might work?

Well for starters:

Step 1. create a Bart PE system using PEBuilder
Step 2. create a bootable USB stick
Step 3. copy BartPE to the USB stick.

Personally I use a utility name PEtoUSB to do steps 2 & 3.

As for what to do with Win 7 I'll have to let someone with experience doing that jump in. But I think wimb_2 has a utility to do what you want.

The BartPE stick is already running...

I would rather want to know how to start the setup process of Win7 using winnt32.exe for Win7 32 bit. I guess it won't work for Win7 64 bit using a BartPE based on 32bit?

Hi doda

I am sure I saw a utility to put a Windows 7 DVD onto a bootable USB memory stick for use with Netbooks (which do not have DVD drives)
This was a Microsoft Utility so I Googled this link

As you know, stupid setup.exe for nt 6.x (vista/win7/2008/2008 r2) has many limitations:

1. You can't start install vista/win7 under xp based pe (winpe 1.x) and can't install win7 under win2000
2. ....
3. ....
4. ....
.....
Based on this, I wrote an "nt 6.x fast installer" which has the following advatages compare to the original M$ setup.exe:
1. .....
2. You can directly install nt 6.x from any version winpe and win2000 above windows
3. .....
4. .....
5. .....
6. .....
