Full Version: Bart's PE 3.1.10a + XPE 1.0.7
The CD Forum > Bart's PE Builder > Troubleshooting
JohnathanAmber
Hello everyone!

Here is my PC setup:
Windows 7 Professional
NTFS filesystem

Here is what I am trying to work with:
Bart's PE 3.1.10a (WinXP SP3 source files)
XPE 1.0.7 + QSoft RAMDisk AutoResizer

I've tried to follow several postings:
http://www.howtohaven.com/system/live-wind...rescue-cd.shtml
http://forums.orumph.com/viewtopic.php?f=3...fc545c0d22531eb
... and several others, closed those tabs already though...

I've even added the following to my xpe-mmc.inf as suggested by paraglider:
;0x4,"ControlSet001\Services\EventSystem","Start",0x3
0x4,"ControlSet001\Services\EventSystem","Start",0x4

Basically I am trying to accomplish running explorer as the shell for my PE.

I can create the ISO with no issues (7 Warnings though). However, when I boot from the ISO in virtualbox I get the following errors when AutoResizer loads:
"RamDisk driver unsupported or not present"
"Error getting info from RamDisk driver (code 259)"

Obviously the RAMDisk driver isn't loading and I can't seem to find a solution to this.

I then get the several errors with browseui.dll, shdocvw.dll and urlmon.dll. Searching in these forums and other places about these DLL issues has lead me to use AutoResizer to load everything in memory so they can be accessed.

After clicking the several messages pertaining to these DLLs and not being able to open log files... it starts to create my preferences and settings for the user and then I can see the explorer taskbar load, but then it disappeared immediately after loading... leaving me with only a background and nothing to work with.

To help further I've got the following plugins enabled:
DriverPacks.net (Graphics A,B and C/Mass Storage)
Sherpya (Saw in another posting to rename the folder to something like zzzzxpe-1.0.7 so it loads last, so I did this and it didn't help.)
-Nu2XPE ShortCuts Converter
-QSoft RAMDisk
-XPE 1.0.7
-Crypto
-Defaults
-DirectX
-Help System
-MMC
-PnP & Multimedia
-WMI
-{Customizations} Template
HWPNP: Perform Plug and Play Hardware Detection
RunScanner
VMWare Plugin v1.2
VMWare VGA
VbRun: VB 5 and 6 Runtimes Support

To help eliminate issues with other plugins, I reverted to a basic PE Builder plugin set and only am using XPE with all other plugins that came with Bart's PE disabled.

Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.

God bless,
Johnathan

Post the warnings.

Why don't you try with the Explorer plugin(s) here:

(which need not XPE)

Thank you jaclaz.

I figured that XPE was an all in one plugin that would get the most out of the Windows XP explorer shell... am I wrong in that? Does it have a lot of bugs, etc?

A stripped down version of XP running from a CD is what I am looking for... the most functionality the better.

I'll look into those two links... curious how it handles the nu2menu items or the XPE menu items.

Sure it is smile.gif, but it is NOT working for you sad.gif (wayouts: try an alternative or troubleshoot the problem)

NO, but it is NOT working for you sad.gif (wayouts: try an alternative or troubleshoot the problem)

Also, as seen here:

you seem like "married" to windows 7. w00t.gif

Idea star.gif :
  1. install a "full" XP in a VM
  2. run the pebuilder INSIDE the VM under XP

(this way you can be sure that it is not Windows 7 that creates problems wink.gif)

Married?!?!? Not likely... have to use it for work... ALSO, I moved to Linux because of Windows vista/7. I liked the 7 interface... but Linux is free AND I can get the same UI... Go Microsoft for pushing me to Linux. biggrin.gif Best thing I ever did!

Wanting to get this going since my new laptop has memory issues with running a single VM of Windows XP in VirtualBox.

BTW, it isn't working for me which is why I am seeking help. biggrin.gif Thank you BTW!

Well tried using Explorer 4.01 plugin.

Created the ISO fine, but now I get this:
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

Have there been good PEBuilder builds using Windows XP SP3 and using Explorer as the shell?

Hi JohnathanAmber,

any kind of ramdisk is vital

Regarding the link to http://forums.orumph.com/viewtopic.php?f=3...fc545c0d22531eb

I did forget to add that BartPE should be built on WinXP SP2 or SP3
NOT in Windows Vista or 7.

I am updating that site and will update that information.
I will also try to re-write the tutorial to make it more fluid.

If you run PEBuilder as an Admin and add the setupapi.dll from XP to the PEBuilder folder it runs just fine on Windows 7.
