Full Version: Help: I can’t build a PartBE cd
The CD Forum > Bart's PE Builder > Troubleshooting

Good morning.

I tried to build a BartPE CD and I followed the instructions.
I have an Acer pc with windows XP pre-installed and I don’t have any windows installation CD.
But I have the directory C:\i386 on my HDD with cab files and a lot of other stuffs (483 MB, 6.608 files, 86 directories).

So I launched “pebuilder.exe” and I put “C:\” in source. But when I push the plugins button, an error occurs: Please enter a valid source path first (file “C:\i386\ntdll.dll” not found)

If I try “Search for Windows installation files” it doesn’t find anything
“Number of valid source locations found: 0”

What is the problem and what can I do ?
Thanks in advance
dog
You need a windows xp or 2003 source cd - see if Acer will sell you an xp one, or try the win2k3 trial (for 6 months)

Problem is that you need a valid source.

You can try rebuilding a source from the files you have and the integration of a Service pack.

Here you can find some instructions on how to do this:

Thank you jaclaz.
I tried to slipstream but I had problems. I typed this command:
D:\Lavoro\UT\BartPE\WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe /integrate:d:\lavoro\ut\bartpe\
where in D:\ ... \bartpe there is a copy of i386 directory and the file WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe.

The extraction create a directory c:\xxxxxx…xxxxx (in C: not in D: as I wanted) and then an error occurs:
“Failed to copy some or all of the files necessary for integrated install. Please check that: a) no network or copy errors occurred during the integration process; cool.gif the format of the destination directory is correct. The files to be integrated must reside in an i386 and/or ia64 or nec98 directory (i.e. for an i386 shared, if you typed “update /s:c:\cdshare”, the files must be in the c:\cdshare\i386 directory).”

I tried also with new directories in C:, new command (i.e. “C:\WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ITA.exe" -s:"C:\")
… but … same thing.

I think I abandoned and I’ll try to solve with other live CD (UBCD, Kaspersky rescue disc, Avira Antivir rescue system, ubuntu live CD, …).

Thanks again.

There has been a misunderstanding. sad.gif
You need to first make sure, by manually extracting (if available) the missing files in your source from an early service pack (or even from the one you want to slipstream) and you create an exact file list as in the given "tacktech" site.
Then, and ONLY once you have fulfilled the above, you try the slipstreaming.
