Followed the directions in pcsplace.com to create XP live CD, using PEBuilder3110a, Xpe-1.0.7.cab, an XP source disk with SP3 on it, an iso burning routine, etc. Disk boots the machine, a brief winXP logo comes up, then a big wallpaper for BartPE, but no mouse pointer shows, and moving the mouse does nothing. There is a "GO" button on the lower left corner, but it is inaccessible. ALT-m brings up some windows which are partially accessible from up/down/sideways arrows, tab, and esc.
It is possible to access a command prompt window. If there is a command to start the mouse, I don't know it, but I'd sure like to! There is no windows on the machine in question, it is pure Linux, but I need to run one or two Windows programs to access certain internet routines that run in Windows only. I made the CD on a WinXP laptop, iaw instructions. Looking back at the instructions, it says that the .cab file is the gui shell. It's almost as if it is not installed. How can I check? If I do this again, is there any way to verify--before burning the CD--that all the components are in place?
Thanx. --doug
