Full Version: Add hardware wizard error
The CD Forum > Bart's PE Builder > Troubleshooting

Everytime I click on my Bartpe-XPE, Settings, Control Panel, Add Hardware I get this error:

"You can install only one device at a time."
"Another device installation is underway, when it is
finished you can try this wizard again."

But what other device installation is underway?
How to know?

In Google there are some fixes for this problem but they do not work or cannot be applied in Bartpe.

Thanks in advance.

BartPE is Bart Preinstalled Environment
means everything must be Preinstalled
you cannot install drivers or devices once you boot in PE

I install drivers and programs all the time, everybody whose Bartpe is writable (FBWF or other method) can install drivers and programs in a running Bartpe.

PE mode dosn't allow this: read SystemSetupInProgress is active.

Try disable SystemSetupInProgress at some basic files

Unfortunately setting SystemSetupInProgress=0 does not help.

SystemSetupInProgress=0 disable PE mode. No, that's not the suggestion.

You have to use SystemSetupInProgress=1, but disable this inside some files.
Given link does describe patching some system files.

OK, if now I understand you are talking about this:
"Before creating the ISO, run ThemePath.exe to make changes to system files (uxtheme.dll, winlogon.exe, services.exe, Sxs.dll, umpnpmgr.dll, ATAPI.SYS, sfc_os.dll)"

I have included the Theme plugin in livexp.iso and then launching hdwwiz.cpl works but it works "too much", it opens several instances of the Hardware Wizard and cannot be canceled.

Installing the patched files in pebuilder.iso does not help and also causes the drives
to disappear from My Computer and the Control Panel folder "flashes".

But never mind, the problem is only related to running hdwwiz.cpl as a standalone tool, but when the Hardware Wizard is called from the Device Manager (install or update drivers options) it works fine.

Best Regards
