Full Version: Can I use the PE Builder with Windows 7 disc under XP
The CD Forum > Bart's PE Builder > General

Years ago I tried the Bart Builder for XP, but with a pre-installed XP and no installation discs it took for ever trying to search for valid XP installation files, and I finished up after many hours with build errors/warnings and ISOs that failed to boot.

I very recently had Windows 7 Ultimate installed as a second boot (via easyBCD) and W7 installation Discs so hope to have a much better experience with the PE Builder.

I have many years experience with XP, but unfortunately only 1.25 GB of RAM.
Windows 7 needs more than 1.25 GB and everything takes twice as long as XP,
assuming I can get over the UAC hurdles.

I assume that the PE Builder will run under XP and sweetly get all it needs from the W7 installation disc.

Please warn me of any potential problems.

Hi alan_b

Bart's PEBuilder only works with Windows XP or 2003 source files
(A free time limited Trial of Win 2003 was/is available for download from Microsoft)

If you want to Use Windows 7 to build a PE see Wim_2's Make_PE3
(this can use your installed Win 7 (without the DVD)

I bought a second hand Acer Win 7 laptop recently with only 1 GB of ram
it works but I added an extra 1GB.
It all depends on how many programs you want open at a time
