I am sorry that Winbuilder is not up to your standards, you are probablyu confusing the actual builder with the quality of the projects made with it (though the Win7PE_SE is IMHO not too shabby wink.gif), but there is also an alternative to it.

Meet Make_PE3:

If it is also not to your satisfaction, we have ended current possibilities.

Last update to pebuilder was in Feb 2006. I think you will be waiting along time for another update.

Do you have a link to a webpage that describes it rather than downloads it?

The "home page" is clearly:
http://code.google.com/p/brokenglass/

The "release notes" are simple and clear w00t.gif

So far Broken Glass hangs on bootup for me. I can not get to a Win7 desktop.

Make_PE3 however, creates a bootable Win7 ISO which boots up both the laptop and desktop I tried so far.

Great job.

Unlike bartPE where you can't really change anything beside plugins, you are welcome to volunteer and improve the current Winbuilder projects.

Don't blame the Winbuilder engine for the quality of the available projects. It is simply following the scripts written and shared by many other folks over the years.

Anyone can volunteer to correct the found bugs, are you available for this task?

What utility is needed that would constitute a need for a W7 BPE? I have only jumped to W7 for a few months, but in a PE environment, does it really matter? You can see the W7 drive and all utilities still work... don't flame me W7 people - innocent question ;-)

Drivers are the only thing that I can see as needing a W7 environment, and I question if there are that many drivers out there that mandate W7 - I could be wrong though.

XP Checkdisc may also not work on a W7 HD - anyone know?

95% of the computers I save is thanks to Bart (Thanks Bart - your a genius!)

Hi Herb,

there are some reason why you should consider to upgrade to a newer winpe:

- One thing is indeed drivers (There is already hardware where no xp drivers exist)
- it's preferable to use the same (or newer) PE-OS like the Windows version on the PC
(offline systemrestore-, SFC-check-, bitlocker-, VHD support, ...)

- As you mentioned Checkdisc will properly cause more trouble as it could solve
- also a comparable Win7 PE, will boot and operate fast then a BartPE
