Full Version: Firefox plugin questions ...

I am running the latest version of BartPE + XPE and have been playing around with the various Firefox plugin offerings and have a few questions ...

1. The latest version of FF I seem to be able to find as a plugin is 2.0xxx

Has anyone done a plugin for a later version (say 3.6) ???

Perhaps there is a good reason why this hasnt been done - but its a bit of a pain because a plugin I use a lot seems to only support 3.0 and up :-(

2. If I want to do this myself - how should I go about it ???

3. Is there a guide anywhere about adding extensions to the FF plugin ???

Any advice/pointers gratefully received.
TIA
Dave

Hi softfoot

If you look at the ubcd4win project at www.ubcd4win.com V 3.60 it has a plugin for Firefox 3.6x

If you run BartPE from a usb memory stick or a virtual machine on a PC with internet access you can install the current version of Firefox 3.6,xx under BartPE and observe what changes are made and collect all the files which are installed and then created when Firefox is used.

You should go into Tools advanced configuration and turn off Auto downloading of updates to Firefox.
(not wanted if running from DVD/CD)

and after testing Firefox clear all downloaded files and recent history.
(to reduce number of files in \Documents & Settings\.... \Applicaions Data\Mozilla\Firefox
& \Documents & Settings\.... \Local Settings\Applicaions Data\Mozilla\Firefox)

You may be able to get Firefox in versions other than US English working especially if you have added localisation (country) plugins to BartPE

Have a Try and see how it goes

Just get Firefox portable and run it from a pendrive, it works fine under BartPE +XPE.

You mean extensions for Firefox?

Sure, you can add extensions to Firefox portable. Just add them as is normally done in regular Firefox.

There are no registry enties needed (only for desktop links). Just copy all files in an folder (e.g. "files"). Extensions can be installed as usual.

For XPE CD-version this info is very important: http://portableapps.com/support/firefox_portable#cd
Also important: after the FirefoxPortable.ini is placed every change in Firefox Portable (settings, new extensions, ...) will be erased after closing FFP! -> With the FirefoxPortable.ini FFP handles the folder as read-only!
