Hi,i'm new here,

My computer had XP Pro OS installed on it,and because it had become too slow,I decided to reinstall the OS.I formatted the drive and "I used my "Windows XP Professional CD" , everything went well until I got to the "Windows XP licencing agreement" where" I clicked I agree",and this is where there is no further response for me to further complete the installation! About once a year I reinstall the system without any problems,so why am I having this problem now? Can someone help me with this? Can I use peBuilder v 3110a to help fix this? Thank you.

If I could chime in on this bit, I've been working on my XP as well and after creating a PE CD and went to test it in a virtual machine I, too, was asked to "agree", fill in "name", "computer name", etc., etc. Can't say where I read this (and I mean within the past few months), but it is my understanding that Microsoft doesn't necessarily allow the re-installing of OS some x-number of times -- I think it was 3 to 5 -- before they somehow *magically* start to prevent this action from being repeated again.

I could be totally wrong about this, but if it's true, you may want to look into creating backups of your entire XP system (assuming you'll get it done OK this time) and using a program like CloneDisk or other "disk" copying/cloning software. Assuming you ARE able to restore system as you want it (like when you first got XP), I would copy the entire disk where your XP resides, date it and use THAT next year, instead of your original XP installation CDs.

Just thought this was worth mentioning and I doubt Microsoft will be too sympathetic, but you never know, right? wink.gif Others in here are WAY more knowledgeable than I. It is only because of them that I now have *my* XP back from the grave.....

Yes XP has a limit on the number of times you can activate. After the limit is reached you have to call MS and get an activation code.

But this sounds like the "Agreement" in text mode part (white text on blue screen), which has nothing to do with activation.

@Van
Can you confirm/detail?
