Full Version: Building a Boot CD/DVD with Dell XP Disk

Hello,

I'm trying to build a boot DVD using a Dell Windows XP install disk (SP2).

I followed the instructions on your FAQ page under "What steps are necessary when building with a Dell CD?", yet I'm still getting errors about missing files. Specifically the log shows the following:
Processing driver IDs
Checking for missing files
Warning: File "iastor.sys" not found
Warning: File "A320RAID.SYS" not found
Warning: File "aac.sys" not found
Warning: File "cercsr6.sys" not found
Warning: File "afamgt.sys" not found
Warning: File "aarich.sys" not found
Warning: File "NvAtaBus.sys" not found
Warning: File "nvraid.sys" not found
Warning: File "symmpi.sys" not found
Warning: File "megasas.sys" not found
Build ISO image

It proceeds to build and burn the DVD, but when I tried booting up my dead system, it fails with the error message "The file iastor.sys could not be found. Press any key to continue.", after which, when I press a key, it says, "Setup failed."

I can find these "missing" files on my XP setup CD, so I'm assuming that I only need to copy them to the correct location under i386 in the build folder on my hard drive before running the DVD build, but to where should I copy them? Is there more to it than that?

Another question: Will this boot disk, after successfully completed, allow me to connect a USB stick to the dead system booted with the boot disk? I need to be able to remove some files from an NTFS partition on the dead system, which is not a standard hard drive (so I cannot slave it to another XP box to extract the files). So I need somewhere I can copy the recovered files to. I hoped I could use my USB stick.

Thanks for any help you can give.

BTW, I'm actually trying to build a BartPE boot disk.

I fear that you are slipping on a chocolate covered banana ph34r.gif

Your problem/question seems like being actually:
QUOTE
How can I recover some files from a NTFS volume on a hard disk (which is not standard) that is on an unbootable machine?

And not:
QUOTE
How do I make a BartPE on CD using a DELL source XP CD?

Maybe if you describe with some details your situation along the standard litany:

A solution/procedure/way out may be suggested (and this may - or may not - be connected with a BartPE build).

Yes, there's more to it than that. You need to determine WHY PEBuilder isn't finding them on you XP input CD.

What OS are you running PEBuilder on?

Possibly, depending on what plugins you add to it.

Yes, I see. And will move this accordingly.
