Hi anyone install BartPE other than C:\ partition?
How and what did you do?
I have 3.0.33 and the option is there to change the install location, but I tried it on a seperate harddrive and it installed but wouldnt boot. "HAL.dll" is missing or corrupt would show if the path in boot.ini was set to x:\peboot.bin=...
thanks, jeff

Use a boot manager, to boot from a seperate harddrive.
Another case, boot from same harddrive, another partition: use bootpart. There is forum search.

What is anyones favorite boot manager?
Any suggestions for a free, graphical (GUI), and maybe uses a mouse type of Boot Manager?
I would like to be able to install this to make it as easy as possible for some people to boot either Windows or do backups (ghost) using either bartpe or alternative.
Thanks, Jeff

I know one excellent, free, with gui, mouse support, you can hide/unhide partition(s) ... it is called XOSL.

I created two primary partitions.
I made one active, ie c:
The second one i installed bartpe onto. The version2 install will do all that is needed if there is nothing on the partition, except hook it to the menu.
I then used bootpart.exe to add the second partition to the boot.ini menu. You tell it the name of the partition, the name of the bootsector to make, and the menu option, viz
bootpart 2 c:\bartdisk.bin BartPE Boot disk
The 2 comes from running bartpe by itself, and picking the partition-number.
The drive has c:\ d:\ and e:\ partitions. E: is the second primary, it moves for all extra partitions. Because bartpe is not intended to be on a fixed drive, you can boot it quite nicely from there.
