Mike
This is mainly a bugfix release. The two new features are the ability to completely disable the command console, and the ability to use decimal color values in print commands (see example (at bottom of page) for details).

Please feel free to post comments, impressions, etc. below.

Hi Mike...

Well i was not online for many days as i lost my net conection at my residence...

But the problem will be resolved soon.

I just upgraded my PC to P4.. I got an Intel 845GEBV2 motherboard with the AMI bios..

I've got some starnge problems.. When i boot with any compresed image i get an error " image decompression error...... ran out of input data."

and the image just dosent boot.. the pc just hangs.

And when the same image is not compressed the image boots sucessfully.

Also the problem arises with the reanimatolog's bcdw.csm .. When i boot with his bcdw the image boots but while taking the paramaters from his .com file i get the error message "could not find the cd-rom litter" (something like that)... But the same image boots perfectly in any other system.

I guess that we've run into a huge compatibility issue that should be looked into.

I even checked out the same on Asus 845 (P4-BM) motherboard.. i got the same problem.

Please look into the matter..
bye,

Jassi.

Hi Jassi,

Please check first to see if this is a memdisk problem. If you cannot boot the image using only memdisk (i.e., no Boot Scriptor, CD Shell, Diskemu, etc. on the disc), then it will not work with CD Shell. Let me know if it works using *only* isolinux and memdisk. If it still gives you the error, then you'll have to report it to HPA or the Syslinux mailing list.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike..

Well how do i check it with ONLY memdisk and isolinux ???

Can i create the image with CDRPACK ???

Well i can still live without the compression part but what could be the problem with the bcdw thingo ??? I believe its not related to memdisk in anyway , right ?? also if it is then how do i emulate the image using diskemu cuz diskemu dosent give me any problems..
And as it is i havent compressed the dos4bcdw.img so it should be of any conflict with memdisk anyways !!.

Please help me with this as i'm really having a bad time !!

Bye,
Jassi.

Hi Jassi,

I understand that as CD Shell integrates a lot of tools together, when errors occur it is not always obvious which tool is at fault.

If you're having a problem with memdisk, you should first verify that the image works using isolinux without CD Shell. For information on how to use isolinux, please consult sylinux.zytor.com. If it works fine with isolinux, then the problem may be in CD Shell and you should direct your questions to me. If it doesn't work with isolinux, then please contact the author of that program. That way he will know about the problem and possibly release a fix for it.

If you're having a problem using bcdw.csm, please contact the author of that module. I don't know what it does and I don't have the source code for it, so I'm in a bad position to do troubleshooing for it.

If the diskemu command is not working, then please feel free to ask me about it.

Just type "diskemu filename" from the CD Shell console.

Hi..

Well atlast my problem has been solved..

Thanks for reanimatolog's timely reply. I could atleast get to know what the problem was !!!

The problem was indeed with the version of mscdex that i was using.. It seemed to have some memory compatibility issues with my motherboard. I just changed it to the one provided by Microsoft and VOILA..

The problem was solved. I couldnt get to the problem earlier as i had turned off the output devices by ctty nul command.. So wasnt getting the error on the screen. rolleyes.gif (Pretty Dumb EH !!)

Well thats that for BCDW but i'm damn sure that there has to be some problems with memdisk.. I can't run the compressed images on my PC with memdisk..

And no memory managers installed this time. I've just got a command.com and an io.sys and two other file on my image. The same compressed image runs on other PC's (except INTEL and ASUS).. Any ideas this time ???

Anyways Thanks reanimatolog for all your kind help.. I was just about to rebuild my images on diskemu biggrin.gif .

Bye,
Jassi
